A night of music, lights, and flavors in the historic center of Monterosi
The White Night Under the Stars is the summer event that transforms Monterosi, a village of just over four thousand inhabitants in the Province of Viterbo, into a large open-air stage. From 8:30 PM until late at night, the historic center closes to traffic and lights up with music and scents: a simple yet effective formula that has already won over thousands of visitors from the Tuscia area and the region north of Rome.
The initiative is young: the first edition took place in July 2025 and immediately recorded a turnout exceeding expectations, prompting the organizers to repeat it the following year with a larger setup. Behind the event are the Municipality of Monterosi and the Pro Loco Monterosi APS, supported by numerous local partners and the patronage of the Lazio Region. The stated goal is twofold: to give the town a great moment of summer sociality and to help visitors discover a village often passed through in a hurry along the Via Cassia, but which deserves a stop.
The program is intentionally diverse, so as to speak to different audiences at the same time. Among the offerings found in every edition:
Despite its nocturnal soul, the Monterosi White Night is not just for the young. The spaces are distributed so that the quieter areas—markets, gastronomy, astronomical observation—remain separate from those with loud music, and the early hours of the evening are expressly dedicated to children and families. Admission is free and open to all: you only pay for what you consume at the stands.
Those who arrive early can take advantage of the afternoon to explore the surroundings. Monterosi is located in the heart of the Viterbo Tuscia, a few kilometers from the Lake of Monterosi, a small volcanic lake surrounded by vegetation and a nature reserve, and a short distance from the Veio Park and the villages of Sutri, Nepi, and Campagnano di Roma. Its location along the historic Via Cassia makes the town easily accessible from both the Capital and the provincial capital, explaining why the White Night attracts audiences well beyond the municipal borders.
The event is part of a tradition now consolidated in Lazio: that of summer white nights, born as an urban experiment in large cities and reinterpreted by small towns as an occasion for collective identity. In Monterosi, the result is an evening that blends a food festival, a popular feast, and contemporary entertainment, with Pro Loco volunteers and local merchants at the forefront of the organization.
The second edition was held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, in the historic center of Monterosi, in the Province of Viterbo, starting at 8:30 PM and continuing until late at night. Compared to the 2025 debut, the 2026 edition expanded its food and wine offerings, adding a tasting route with open wineries to the existing stalls and stands.
On the musical and entertainment front, the evening alternated DJ sets in the squares, the classic foam party, and Argentine tango performances, while the Tuning night brought an exhibition of customized cars to the town. Throughout the village streets, markets, hobbyists, and street food accompanied the public all night long, with entertainment and surprises designed for every age group.
The organization, managed by the Municipality of Monterosi together with the local Pro Loco, provided for the closure of the center to traffic and a free shuttle service active from 8:00 PM to midnight, with departure and return from the Conad parking lot, which remained open for the occasion until 2:00 AM.
Widespread entertainment and surprises for all ages along the entire event route.
By car: Monterosi is located on the Via Cassia (SS2), about 45 km from Rome and 30 km from Viterbo. Recommended exit from the Cassia bis (SS2 bis) towards Sutri/Nepi.
By train: the nearest useful station is Sutri-Capranica on the Rome-Viterbo line; from there, you must continue by car or taxi.
During the event, the historic center is closed to traffic. A free shuttle service is active from 8:00 PM until midnight, departing from and returning to the Conad parking lot, which remains open for the occasion until 2:00 AM.
Free admission; only consumption at food stands and wineries is paid. It is recommended to arrive early to find parking, wear comfortable shoes for the sloping streets of the historic center, and check the updated program on the Municipality and Pro Loco channels in the days leading up to the event.
