A night of music, street performers, and the Trunk Fair in the heart of the Sannio region
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every summer, the center of San Giorgio del Sannio, a town of about ten thousand inhabitants in the province of Benevento, Campania, transforms for one evening into a large open-air party space. The local White Night is the highlight of the town's summer calendar: streets and squares remain lively until late at night, with stages, live music, street performers, stalls, and local shops staying open well past their usual hours.
This is not a recent novelty. The White Night is a well-established tradition in the local calendar: as early as the late 2000s, the event featured around thirty shows and some two hundred artists distributed across the town's key spots, under the patronage of the Province of Benevento. In recent years, the event has been relaunched by the municipal administration as part of the 'La Bella Estate Sangiorgese' summer festival.
The element that sets this White Night apart from others is the Trunk Fair: a market where exhibitors do not use gazebos or traditional stalls, but the open trunk of their own car, accompanied by small tables. The format, which travels through the towns of the Sannio and Irpinia areas, has found its home in San Giorgio on Via Aldo Moro, where the street fills with lined-up cars and people strolling from one tailgate to the next.
Participation is free for both exhibitors and visitors: in the 2025 edition, over fifty cars with open trunks lined up along Via Aldo Moro.
The main stage is set up in Piazza IV Novembre, while other areas of the town host roaming music, dancing, and performances. The program alternates between a headline concert, comedy shows, bands, and DJ sets that continue into the small hours. In 2025, the program featured a free concert by Eugenio Bennato and his band, offering a sonic journey through tarantella, folk music, and Mediterranean sounds, the Neapolitan comedy duo Enzo e Sal, well-known faces from 'Made in Sud', and multi-instrumentalist Michele Roscica in a one-man band performance.
The White Night is not just for adults: inflatables and games for children, entertainment along the route, and the chance to walk through a car-free center make it one of the most popular occasions of the year for families in the area. Food is provided by local businesses and restaurants, which set up outdoor stalls and stations: pizzas, fried snacks, sandwiches, and Sannio specialties are enjoyed on the street, with no formalities.
San Giorgio del Sannio is located about ten kilometers from Benevento, along the historic Via Appia route, in a hilly agricultural area known for its wine and olive oil production. It is the reference point for a cluster of small, neighboring towns: this is why the White Night acts as a regional event, capable of attracting audiences from the entire Caudine Valley and the Fortore area. For those visiting inland Campania, it is a direct and authentic way to experience the life of a Sannio town in the height of summer, far from the tourist circuits of the coast.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of San Giorgio del Sannio together with the Pro Loco San Giorgio del Sannio APS and the Cuore al Centro association, with the involvement of local commercial businesses. Admission to all shows, including the concert, is traditionally free of charge.
The event usually falls in August, on a Saturday evening, starting around 8:00 PM and continuing until late at night. The date changes every year and is announced by the Municipality and the Pro Loco just a few days before the event: it is therefore advisable to check the official channels before traveling.
At the time of our check, no official date has been published for the White Night of San Giorgio del Sannio 2026. However, the event is a recurring fixture in the summer calendar of the town in the province of Benevento, and in recent years it has been included in the municipal 'La Bella Estate Sangiorgese' festival.
The most recent and certain reference is the August 23, 2025 edition, with the stage in Piazza IV Novembre, the free concert by Eugenio Bennato, and the Trunk Fair on Via Aldo Moro. It is therefore reasonable to expect an evening in late August for 2026 as well, but until the official announcement from the Municipality of San Giorgio del Sannio or the Pro Loco San Giorgio del Sannio APS arrives, no date or program details can be considered confirmed.
We will update this page with the date, times, and full program as soon as the organizers make them public.
By car: San Giorgio del Sannio can be reached from Benevento along the SS 7 Appia in about ten minutes; from Naples, take the A16 Naples–Canosa motorway and exit at Benevento (the town is about 60 km from the regional capital). During the White Night, the center and Via Aldo Moro are closed to traffic: you can park in the surrounding streets and continue on foot, so it is best to arrive early.
By train: the San Giorgio del Sannio station is on the Benevento–Foggia line; the connection from Benevento Centrale is short, but evening trains are limited, so check the last return time.
Admission to the entire event is free, including the main concert. Participation in the Trunk Fair is also free for exhibitors. You only pay for food, drinks, and purchases at the market.
