A gastronomic walk through the woods and shores of Lake Comabbio
Amidst the gentle landscapes of the Varese area, Lake Comabbio provides the backdrop for one of the most evocative gastronomic walks in the region: Camminar Mangiando. The initiative involves five municipalities that overlook or are near the lake, including the Municipality of Mercallo, in the Province of Varese, whose woods are one of the stops on the route.
The strength of the event lies in the collaboration between the Pro Loco associations of Ternate, Comabbio, Mercallo, Varano Borghi, and Vergiate, which together, with the patronage of their respective municipalities, organize a day of celebration spread across the territory. The start is from Parco Berrini in Ternate, from where the walk winds along the lake shores and through the woods of Mercallo.
The trail alternates naturalistic views and characteristic places:
At each stop, participants find a gastronomic break with specialties prepared by the Pro Loco volunteers, in an experience that combines the pleasure of walking with that of good food.
Camminar Mangiando also has a charitable heart: part of the proceeds are donated to the Giacomo Ascoli Foundation of Varese, committed to supporting oncohematological patients and their families. One more reason to participate in a day that, between Mercallo and the other lake municipalities, celebrates beauty, flavors, and generosity.
The 2026 edition of Camminar Mangiando, the second one, will be held on Sunday, May 17, around Lake Comabbio. The walk, organized by the Pro Loco associations of Ternate, Comabbio, Mercallo, Varano Borghi, and Vergiate, starts from Parco Berrini in Ternate and winds through the lake shores and the woods of Mercallo.
Along the route, participants will find gastronomic stops curated by Pro Loco volunteers, amidst natural scenery and characteristic places such as the studio of artist Mario da Corgeno and the colorful bench of Varano Borghi. Part of the proceeds are donated to the Giacomo Ascoli Foundation of Varese.
