Traveling theater performance through the streets of Pianoro
The Walk in Memory is now a well-established event in the spring calendar of Pianoro, a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Bologna in Emilia-Romagna. It is not just a stage performance, but a traveling theatrical journey that transforms the town's streets and squares into a large open-air stage, where the memory of the Resistance and anti-fascism comes to life with body and voice.
The initiative is the result of a collaboration between the theater company Il Piccolissimo di Rastignano and the Pianoro section of ANPI (National Association of Italian Partisans). From this meeting of popular theater and civic engagement, a walk is born that combines historical research, storytelling, and live music, designed to be accessible to everyone, from families to schools.
The audience walks alongside the actors along an itinerary that crosses the center of Pianoro. At each stop, characters share their stories in the first person: voices that reconstruct the climate of anti-fascism from the 1920s to the Liberation, giving face and voice to those who lived through that period. The music by Maestro Massimo Amadori accompanies the walk, linking the various scenes into a single choral narrative.
Pianoro and the entire Savena and Idice valley were the scene of dramatic events during World War II and the Liberation struggle. The Walk in Memory intertwines this local history with the participants' journey, restoring a sense of continuity between the places crossed daily and the events that marked them. It is a way to pass on the value of the Resistance to new generations, in an occasion of collective participation and shared reflection.
The walk takes place in the days around April 25th, Liberation Day, becoming an integral part of the city's celebrations. Participation is free and open to the entire community, in an atmosphere that combines solemnity, theater, and civic celebration.
The 2026 edition of the Walk in Memory, the fourth, was held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Pianoro, as part of the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Liberation. The meeting point was set for 10:30 AM in front of the Silvio Mucini Library, from where the traveling theatrical route began through the town's streets, concluding in Piazza dei Martiri.
This year again, the company Il Piccolissimo di Rastignano, in collaboration with the ANPI section of Pianoro, guided the public through characters and stories of anti-fascism, from the 1920s to the Liberation, with musical accompaniment by Maestro Massimo Amadori. Participation was free and open to all.
