The masked parade that enlivens the west of Genoa with confetti, piñata, and awards
The Voltri Carnival is one of the most heartfelt masked festivals in the west of Genoa. Voltri, a district overlooking the sea at the western end of the city, in Municipio VII Ponente, transforms for an afternoon into a cheerful procession of confetti, streamers, and costumes, with families and children as the main protagonists.
The meeting point is at the Giardini Piccardo, from where the pedestrian parade starts, crossing the streets of the district. The procession is exclusively on foot: no floats or trailers pulled by motor vehicles are allowed, a choice that makes it an intimate and family-friendly festival. Musical accompaniment is provided by the Banda Musicale Città di Voltri, while Civil Protection ensures the safety of the route.
The parade concludes in Piazza Dagnino, where the highlights of the festival take place: the traditional piñata, snacks for the little ones, and the awarding of the most numerous themed masked group and the best masks. A festive finale that rewards creativity and participation.
Organized by CIV Voltri and Pro Loco Voltri 2000 with the patronage of Municipio VII Ponente, the Voltri Carnival is an example of the vibrancy of neighborhood traditions that liven up Genoa and Liguria during the carnival season.
