A dive into the Middle Ages within the walls

Voices from the Middle Ages is the grand historical re-enactment of Cittadella, the walled city in the province of Padua. At the end of September, the historic centre, enclosed by the still entirely walkable medieval walls, returns to life with the atmosphere of the Middle Ages: a unique scenic setting in the Veneto.

History and spectacle

The event recounts the medieval life of Cittadella during the rule of the Ezzelinians and the liberation of 1256. In the Public Gardens, the Campo della Marta, and Piazza Pierobon, there are historical costumed pageants, military encampments, the re-enactment of the battle, the medieval market with ancient crafts, falconry shows, archer exhibitions, historical games, and entertainment by jesters, travelling musicians, and flag-wavers.

A consolidated tradition

Organised by the Associazione Arme, Dame, Cavalieri & Arcieri della Torre (Association of Arms, Ladies, Knights & Archers of the Tower), Voices from the Middle Ages is now a well-established tradition, having reached over twenty editions. For families and history enthusiasts, it is an opportunity to discover Cittadella in an unusual guise, with medieval taverns and evening shows that illuminate the walls.
