The big screen under the stars of Rome

Vivi il Cinema! is the event that transforms Rome's neighborhoods into open-air cinemas every summer. Created to bring the seventh art closer to residents in the suburbs, the festival brings great films, restored classics, and recent hits to the green spaces and squares of the capital, with entirely free evening screenings. The project is promoted by Roma Capitale, the Department of Culture, and produced by the Fondazione Cinema per Roma as part of the Estate Romana, the calendar of events that accompanies the city's summer evenings from June to September in the Lazio region.

Four arenas for the 2026 edition

From July 1st to 31st, 2026, the festival will light up four different arenas. It begins with the fifth edition of the Roma Cinema Arena at Parco degli Acquedotti (July 1-22), joined by the Corviale Arena on Via Poggio Verde (July 8-21) and the Santa Maria della Pietà Arena (July 15-28), both in their fourth edition. The big news is the new Tor Marancia Arena (July 22-31), set up on the estate on Via di Grotta Perfetta. A total of sixty screenings, every evening at 9:15 PM, with free admission subject to availability.

Films and special guests

The heart of Vivi il Cinema! lies in the evenings presented by cinema stars: directors, actors, and screenwriters accompany the screenings, sharing anecdotes and behind-the-scenes stories. The 2026 edition pays tribute to Ettore Scola, ten years after his passing, and celebrates major anniversaries of world cinema. Announced guests include Francesca Comencini, Andrea and Brando De Sica, Isabella Ferrari, Micaela Ramazzotti, Barbara Ronchi, Andrea Segre, and Silvia Scola. The program features titles such as The Leopard, Two Women, One Hundred Steps, Cast Away, Wings of Desire, and Young Frankenstein.

A project for the community

More than just a simple summer arena, Vivi il Cinema! is a local cultural project: by bringing great cinema to Rome's peripheral districts, the event creates opportunities for meeting and socializing for families and residents. The focus on inclusion also translates into accessible evenings thanks to Italian Sign Language (LIS) and audio description for a selection of films.

Included in the Estate Romana program promoted by the Municipality of Rome, the festival confirms the capital's commitment to offering quality culture for free and across the territory. An event now eagerly awaited by those who, on July evenings, are looking for a simple and convivial way to enjoy the big screen outdoors in the Lazio region.
