A conference on viticulture in the heart of the Novara hills

Viticulture: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow is a technical and scientific conference held in Barengo, a small town in the province of Novara, located in the hilly region of Upper Piedmont. Hosted at the Sala Polivalente of the Municipality of Barengo in Piazza Travaglini, the event offers an in-depth reflection on the evolution of viticulture: from the traditions of the past to modern techniques, and the challenges awaiting the wine sector in the coming years.

The territory: Nebbiolo and Colline Novaresi

Barengo is part of the production zone for the Colline Novaresi DOC appellation, situated in that Upper Piedmont area where Nebbiolo—also known locally as Spanna—finds unique expression thanks to diverse microclimates and mineral-rich soils. This territory is protected by the Consorzio di Tutela Nebbioli Alto Piemonte, which since 1999 has been promoting wines from the provinces of Novara, Biella, Vercelli, and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, including prestigious appellations such as Gattinara and Ghemme. The conference fits into this context, providing an opportunity for discussion on the agricultural, cultural, and economic value of the vine in Piedmont.

An event for professionals and enthusiasts

The day is primarily designed for industry professionals—agricultural experts, agronomists, and forestry experts—for whom professional training credits (CFP) are provided in accordance with the regulations of their respective professional orders. However, the meeting is also open to producers, winemakers, and anyone interested in exploring the themes of vine cultivation, sustainability, and the future of wine in the Novara area.

The organizers

The conference is organized by Sfera Srl in collaboration with the Municipality of Barengo, the College of Agricultural Experts and Graduate Agricultural Experts of the Province of Novara, the National Association of Wine Cities, the Consorzio di Tutela Nebbioli Alto Piemonte, and the Association of Doctors in Agricultural and Forestry Sciences of the Provinces of Novara and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. The synergy between public bodies, professional orders, and protection consortia testifies to the importance that viticulture holds for the identity and economy of Northern Piedmont.
