A local festival that speaks the language of music

In the Villanova district, on the eastern outskirts of Guidonia Montecelio, near Rome, the summer solstice now has a distinct sound: the brass instruments of the band filling Piazza San Giuseppe Artigiano. The Villanova Music Festival was launched in 2024 by the "Pietro Mascagni" Band, a historic local association, and in just a few editions, it has become one of the most anticipated early-summer events in the Tiburtina area.

The band gathering, the heart of the event

The defining element of the festival is the band gathering: ensembles from across the Lazio region and beyond parade through the streets of the district, involving residents and visitors alike, before converging in the square. It is an ancient and popular format that has accompanied civic and patronal feasts in Italy for centuries, presented here without nostalgia, featuring a repertoire that alternates between marches, soundtracks, and pop arrangements.

The gathering is joined by a concert from the local band, conducted by Maestro Claudio Croce, who crafts a program each year that appeals to both dedicated enthusiasts and casual listeners.

From brass bands to DJ sets: two non-stop evenings

What sets the Music Festival apart from a simple band concert is the second half of the evening. After the band performance, the stage is taken over by cover bands and live acts—featuring rock, dance, and 80s/90s revival projects—and the square transforms into a dance floor until late at night with DJ sets. This is a deliberate choice by the organizers: to bring different generations together in the same space, without asking anyone to give up their preferred music.

Beyond the stage: markets, food, and children
