The Pro Loco bean stew feast and the children's Carnival in the heart of Vigliano Biellese
The Vigliano Charity Carnival is one of the most deeply rooted and beloved festivals in Vigliano Biellese, a town in the province of Biella, in the heart of Piedmont. Now in its forty-plus editions (the 46th in 2024 and the 47th in 2025), it is passionately organized by the Pro Loco of Vigliano Biellese in collaboration with local associations and parish youth groups. Its character is explicitly charitable: the event's proceeds are donated to local solidarity projects, which is why it has attracted families and visitors from across the Biella region for decades.
The most anticipated moment is undoubtedly the fagiolata (bean stew), prepared by the Pro Loco cooks and distributed in Largo Stazione, next to the association's headquarters near Piazza del Mercato. Distribution begins at noon and continues until supplies run out, with vouchers available on-site or in local shops in the days leading up to the event. It is a convivial ritual that brings the entire community together around a simple, generous dish, a symbol of Piedmontese popular cuisine.
In the afternoon, the festivities move to Piazza Martiri Partigiani, where the grand costume party for children takes place, hosted by the local parish groups (Santa Maria Assunta and San Giuseppe). Expect parades of costumed groups, group games, food stalls with crepes and sweets, and the unmissable final confetti battle, accompanied by hot chocolate and tea provided by the Pro Loco. An afternoon designed for families, transforming the square into a vibrant space of play and color.
The Vigliano Carnival is part of the rich Biella carnival tradition, characterized by local masks and village festivals that enliven the winter months. In recent editions, the Pro Loco has also reintroduced the presentation of Piedmontese masks, a moment that highlights the connection with regional folklore and other local Pro Loco associations.
In 2026, the Vigliano Charity Carnival maintained its well-established format, organized by the Pro Loco of Vigliano Biellese.
