Art, tradition, and inclusion in the Borgo San Giacomo of Barletta
Every spring, Vico Torto, in the heart of the Borgo San Giacomo in Barletta (province of Barletta-Andria-Trani, Puglia), comes alive and transforms into an open-air museum. Vico degli Artisti is a widespread event that takes art out of museums and brings it to the streets, facades, balconies, and windows of the ancient district's houses. Born to showcase a charming yet often overlooked corner of the historic center, the event has become, in just a few editions, one of the most anticipated of the city's spring season.
The route along the alley alternates between collective exhibitions of paintings and works by local artists, demonstrations of ancient crafts, and displays of objects and tools once used in daily life and traditional craftsmanship. There is no shortage of the famous urban crochet installations, which adorn balconies and windows, turning them into true textile artworks, nor the folk dances in period costumes that bring the gestures and rhythms of Apulian tradition back to life.
The authentic heart of the event is the theme of social inclusion: the idea that art is for everyone and belongs to everyone. Alongside the artists, the residents of the alley, cultural associations, and local entities committed to creativity and work as a tool for participation all get involved. The result is a warm and accessible atmosphere, without barriers, where culture, traditions, and sharing become an opportunity for collective growth for the entire Municipality of Barletta.
The event also offers free guided tours to discover the Borgo San Giacomo, with stops at churches and historic sites in the neighborhood, and concludes with tastings of typical local products offered by residents and businesses in the alley. It is a way to weave together art, history, tourism, and flavors into a single visitor-friendly experience.
The fourth edition confirmed Vico Torto as one of the most anticipated spring events in Barletta, combining traditional crafts, culture, inclusion, and local flavors. The focus was on social inclusion and accessible tourism, with the active participation of organizations such as WorkAut โ Lavoro e Autismo and Divine del Sud, which promote the value of inclusion through creativity and artisanal work.
Closing with a final tasting in collaboration with Ristorante I Saraceni, Pizzeria Gory, Caffetteria Hakuna Matata, and Frantoio Settanni.
