The Vergnasco Carnival

In the heart of the lower Biella area, the small village of Vergnasco, in the Municipality of Cerrione (Province of Biella, Piedmont), celebrates its own Carnival every year thanks to the dedication of the Pòvri Màrun association. This is not a monumental parade like those in Venice or Ivrea, but an authentic village festival, built by volunteers for the community: it is precisely this intimate and familiar scale that makes it so special.

The highlight is the Carnival Dinner, a convivial evening usually held at the Circolo CSEN in Vergnasco, which attracts residents from the village, Cerrione, and surrounding towns. Families and friends gather around the table, often in costume, to share traditional Piedmontese dishes and celebrate the most cheerful time of the year together.

A festival spread over several days

The Vergnasco Carnival is traditionally spread over several events throughout the festive weekend. Past editions have featured the presentation of the masks to kick off the celebrations, an outdoor evening dubbed "Carnival under the stars", the Saturday dinner, and a Sunday dedicated to families, with the distribution of beans, entertainment for children, and the unmissable lottery draw.

Behind every edition is the hard work of the volunteers from the Pòvri Màrun association, who have kept this tradition alive in the village for many years. The festival is also a way to support local community life and lend a hand to local activities.

Carnival in the lower Biella area

Together with Cerrione and the village of Magnonevolo, Vergnasco is part of the carnival committees that bring the Municipality to life during the month of February. Participating in the Vergnasco Carnival Dinner means experiencing the Piedmontese Carnival in its most genuine form: that of small communities coming together to enjoy each other's company, amidst homemade masks, good food, and plenty of joy.
