The major national philatelic exhibition held in the halls of Palazzo d'Avalos in Vasto
Vastophil is one of the most established philatelic events in Abruzzo and the entire Central-South of Italy. Every year, the Municipality of Vasto, in the province of Chieti, welcomes collectors, federal jurors, and national exhibitors for an event that combines competition, postal culture, and a passion for the small serrated vignette. The venue is exceptional: the monumental halls of Palazzo d'Avalos, in Piazza Lucio Valerio Pudente, the heart of the historic center overlooking the Trabocchi Coast.
The event is promoted by the Vastophil "Rino Piccirilli" Philatelic and Numismatic Circle, founded in 1983 on the occasion of the issue of the Castelli series stamp dedicated to the Castello Caldoresco of Vasto. For over forty years, the association has kept the tradition of collecting alive in Vasto, organizing exhibitions recognized by the Federation of Italian Philatelic Societies (FSFI).
Vastophil is a national exhibition with federal judging: collectors present their collections, often in the proven "one frame plus" format, in the various admitted classes. Over the years, thematic philately, the open class, aerophilately, astrophilately, and maximaphily have alternated. A jury awards prizes according to FSFI regulations, in a climate of exchange and growth among enthusiasts of all levels.
Set in one of the most charming art cities on the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo, Vastophil is also an opportunity to discover Palazzo d'Avalos with its Neapolitan gardens, civic museums, and the view over the gulf. The event confirms Vasto's role as a reference point for collecting in Southern Italy and represents a significant event for Abruzzo, capable of attracting visitors from across the peninsula. Admission is free.
The 44th edition of Vastophil was held from June 26 to 28, 2026, in the halls of Palazzo d'Avalos in Vasto. The national exhibition, judged by the Federation of Italian Philatelic Societies, featured nine competitive entries in the thematic and open classes. The main exhibition was accompanied by the philatelic-documentary exhibition "Aviocom 100", dedicated to the centenary of civil aviation in Italy, and the 52nd Aerophilately Day. Numerous exhibitors and stands from Poste Italiane and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM) were present at the trade fair. The edition also paid tribute to the 165th anniversary of the Carabinieri's presence in Vasto.
