A carnival afternoon dedicated to the little ones in the heart of the Soana Valley
In Valprato Soana, a tiny village nestled in the Soana Valley in the province of Turin, the Children's Carnival is the event that officially kicks off the valley's carnival season. It is an event designed and dedicated entirely to children, who are invited to come strictly in costume for an afternoon of games, sweets, and joy in the heart of the Alpine Piedmont.
Recently established by the Pro Loco of Valprato Soana and organized by Elena Rudellat, this festival has quickly become a highly anticipated event for families in the valley. The decision to hold the festivities earlier than the traditional dates stems from the desire to give children a special moment of their own before the Soana Valley Carnival gets into full swing with float parades and masquerade balls.
The afternoon revolves around the great classics of the children's Carnival:
The Children's Carnival is the first piece of a festive weekend that involves the entire Soana Valley, one of the most evocative and lesser-known valleys in Piedmont, at the gates of the Gran Paradiso National Park. In the following days, the festivities continue with the traditional valley Carnival, featuring masquerade dinners, lunches based on local dishes, and the parade of allegorical floats. Participating means experiencing an authentic day, far from mass tourism, immersed in the traditions of a mountain community that keeps its customs alive.
On Saturday, March 7, 2026, Valprato Soana hosted a new edition of the Children's Carnival, organized by Elena Rudellat for the Pro Loco. In the afternoon, the little ones, strictly in costume, gathered for a program full of fun.
Activities included: piñata smashing, face painting, and a super snack for all participants. The event kicked off the Soana Valley Carnival weekend, which then continued with initiatives in the other municipalities of the valley.
Participation strictly in costume. The event launched the Soana Valley Carnival weekend.
The Children's Carnival takes place on a March afternoon at the Pro Loco hall in the Sacairi area, in Valprato Soana (TO).
By car from Turin, you can reach Valprato Soana by driving up the Soana Valley through Cuorgnè and Pont Canavese (about 1 hour and 30 minutes). The valley is not served by direct rail links: the nearest station is Pont Canavese, from where you can continue by car or local transport.
The event is dedicated to children, who are invited to come in costume. As it is a mountain location, it is advisable to dress in layers to face the Alpine climate of early spring. For updated times and details, it is best to contact the Pro Loco at [email protected].
