The Partinico music competition celebrating young talent from Sicily and across Italy
The Valle dello Jato International Music Competition is an annual event held every May in Partinico, a key town in the Province of Palermo, Sicily. Organized by the Accademia della Cultura of Partinico, the competition is dedicated to young musicians, focusing on the passion, study, and talent of those beginning their musical journey during their school years.
Created to promote music-focused schools, music high schools, conservatories, and local associations, the competition has expanded over the years to attract participants from various regions of Italy, becoming a benchmark in the landscape of music competitions for young performers.
The "Valle dello Jato" is a multidisciplinary competition covering diverse genres and ensembles. The main competitive categories include:
Instrumental sections include piano, guitar, strings, woodwinds, and accordion, alongside classical and jazz singing, confirming the competition's openness to all genres and instruments.
The competition awards scholarships to winners in each category. The most prestigious honor is the Valle dello Jato International Prize, which includes a 1,000-euro scholarship and the opportunity to perform in a series of concerts organized with prominent Sicilian concert associations: a concrete chance to step onto the stage and advance one's artistic career.
The various editions have been held in iconic cultural landmarks of Partinico, from the evocative Real Cantina Borbonica to the Teatro Lucia Giani on Via Bellini, in the heart of the town. This setting combines the promotion of local heritage with the celebration of music and its young interpreters.
The 9th edition of the Valle dello Jato Music Competition took place on May 26, 2026, at the Real Cantina Borbonica of Partinico, in the Province of Palermo. The edition was aimed at lower secondary schools with a musical focus and music high schools from all over Italy, featuring performances by soloists and ensembles in various instrumental sections.
Among the winners of this edition, two young students from the Veneziano-Novelli school in Monreale stood out: Riccardo Marzullo, first prize in the violin section with a score of 95/100, and Giulio La Bruna, second prize in the piano section with 93/100. A result that testifies to the quality level reached by the competition and the constant attention paid to the youngest participants.
A day of competitive performances for soloists and ensembles from music-focused schools and music high schools, followed by the award ceremony.
Partinico can be reached by car via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway (Partinico exit), approximately 35 km from Palermo. By train, the town is served by the regional Palermo-Trapani line.
