The Sicilian rally crossing the hinterland towns of Palermo
The Valle del Sosio Rally is one of the most beloved automotive events in the Sicilian hinterland. It takes place every spring with its logistics base in Chiusa Sclafani, a small town in the Province of Palermo nestled in the Sicani Mountains, and takes its name from the Sosio River that flows through this valley rich in history and nature. The 2026 edition marked the nineteenth running for modern cars, accompanied by the tenth edition of the Historic rally and the second dedicated to Classic Cars.
What makes this race special is its collective spirit: the rally does not belong to just one town but to an entire territory. The track winds through the municipalities of Chiusa Sclafani, Bisacquino, Giuliana, Palazzo Adriano, and Prizzi, all of which are involved in the organization. The total route covers over 227 kilometers, with approximately 63 timed kilometers divided into eight special stages. Among these, the "Santa Venera" stage stands outโa technical section introduced in 2026, alongside the fast and now iconic "Sant'Anna" and "San Carlo" stages.
The Valle del Sosio Rally is not just for specialists: the format brings together three distinct competitions in a single weekend. Alongside modern carsโRally2, Rally3, Rally4, and smaller categoriesโare historic cars and classic cars, offering enthusiasts the charm of models like the Porsche Carrera RS. This coexistence of past and present is one of the event's hallmarks, valid for the ACI Sport Zone Rally Cup and the Sicilian rally championship.
Beyond the sporting competition, the Valle del Sosio Rally is an event deeply felt by local communities. The awards ceremony traditionally takes place in Piazza Santa Rosalia in Chiusa Sclafani, where residents and fans gather to welcome the crews. Among the most beloved figures is Prizzi-born driver Marco Pollara, a local hero who has collected numerous victories on the valley's roads. The race thus serves as an opportunity to promote the Sicani Mountains territory, with its rural landscapes, villages, and the traditions of inland Sicily.
For the small towns of the Valle del Sosio, the event is also an important tourist and economic showcase. During the race days, hotels, farmhouses, and restaurants in the Palermo area are fully booked, while the public lining the special stages helps bring attention to a corner of Sicily often far from the main tourist flows. The rally thus combines a passion for engines with the promotion of the Sicani's landscape and cultural heritage.
The 19th Valle del Sosio Rally took place on April 11-12, 2026. Saturday was dedicated to sporting and technical checks and the shakedown on the Sant'Anna stage, followed by the crew briefing. The race entered full swing on Sunday the 12th, with the start from Bisacquino and a route of approximately 227 km in total and over 63 timed kilometers across eight special stages, including the new "Santa Venera" (13.9 km), repeated twice. Over one hundred crews took part, including modern, historic, and classic cars.
In the overall standings, Marco Pollara and Giuseppe Princiotto triumphed in a Skoda Fabia RS, marking the sixth victory for the Prizzi driver in his home race, ahead of the Di Giorgio-Rappa and Di Giorgio-Rappazzo crews. Among the historic and classic cars, Giuseppe Termine and Onofrio Musso won in a Porsche Carrera RS. The awards ceremony was held in Piazza Santa Rosalia in Chiusa Sclafani.
