Classical guitar takes center stage in Martina Franca, Locorotondo, and Cisternino
The Valle d'Itria Guitar Festival is an event entirely dedicated to classical guitar, held annually in early September in the charming villages of the famous Valle d'Itria, in the province of Taranto, Apulia. Based in Martina Franca, the festival is organized by the ArtCore APS association and also involves the towns of Locorotondo and Cisternino, bringing world-class music to some of the most evocative settings in the region.
The festival is structured around several key components, making it a multidisciplinary event designed for both the general public and music specialists:
The performances take place in locations steeped in history and charm: in Martina Franca, the "Isidoro Chirulli" Municipal Library inside the Palazzo Ducale and the Paolo Grassi Foundation Auditorium; in Locorotondo, the churches of the historic center, including the Rectory of San Rocco; and in Cisternino, the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli. The landscape of trulli and whitewashed villages provides the perfect backdrop for an experience that blends music, heritage, and local culture.
Through its masterclasses and international competition, the Valle d'Itria Guitar Festival attracts students, enthusiasts, and professionals from Italian and European conservatories every year. The festival has established itself as a valuable opportunity for training and professional exchange for the new generation of performers, while offering the Valle d'Itria audience high-level classical guitar concerts.
The fifth edition of the Valle d'Itria Guitar Festival will take place from September 2 to 6, 2026, confirming the early September tradition dedicated to classical guitar in the Valle d'Itria, in the province of Taranto. Organized by ArtCore APS, the festival will once again involve Martina Franca, Locorotondo, and Cisternino with evening concerts, intensive masterclasses, an international competition for young guitarists, and a luthier exhibition.
The full program has not yet been released: guest artists, schedules, and specific concert venues for the 2026 edition will be communicated by the organization on the official website and social media channels. Registration for masterclasses and the competition will open in the months preceding the festival.
Martina Franca can be reached by car via the SS172 dei Trulli; the train station is served by Ferrovie del Sud Est. The nearest airports are Brindisi-Casale and Bari-Palese. Locorotondo and Cisternino are just a few kilometers from Martina Franca.
Information regarding concerts, masterclass registration, and the international competition is available on the official website valleditriaguitarfestival.eu and the festival's social media channels.
