A solidarity-focused Carnival for the children of Vallanzengo, in the heart of the Biella area
In the heart of the Biella area, nestled among the rolling hills of the Mosso and Sessera Valleys, the small municipality of Vallanzengo (Province of Biella, Piedmont) celebrates Carnival with an event that captures the authentic flavor of traditional festivals. The Vallanzengo Charity Carnival does not rely on massive floats or the crowds of more famous events, but on something just as precious: togetherness, solidarity, and the smiles of children.
The event is brought to life by the Gli Amici di Loris association, a group of volunteers deeply connected to their village, supported by the local MCL club (Christian Workers' Movement). Together, they build, set up, and host an afternoon entirely dedicated to children, in a municipality with just over two hundred inhabitants that, for the occasion, fills with voices, costumes, and joy.
The program revolves around the great classics of a village Carnival. Volunteers prepare beautiful, colorful piñatas, which are then stormed and broken by the children in a game that amuses many adults as well. There is no shortage of games of all kinds and the inevitable bingo, organized so that almost all participants go home with a prize. To close the day in conviviality, there is the fagiolata (bean stew), prepared and distributed by the MCL club: a simple, generous dish that has always been the symbol of the Piedmontese Carnival.
As the name suggests, the heart of the event is charity: the festival was born to raise funds and do good, combining children's fun with a goal of supporting the community. It is this spirit that drives the volunteers of Vallanzengo to roll up their sleeves every year, proving that even a small village in the Biella area can create an event capable of leaving a mark.
The Charity Carnival is designed primarily for the children of the village, but it warmly welcomes cousins, friends, and families from the surrounding area. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the hospitality of an authentic corner of Piedmont, far from the tourist circuits, where the festival is still a matter of community and neighborhood.
Vallanzengo is located in the province of Biella, in the Mosso and Sessera Valleys. By car, it can be reached via the SS230 and the provincial roads that climb up from Biella and Valle San Nicolao. The nearest train station is Biella San Paolo, from where you can continue by car or local transport.
The event takes place during the Carnival period, usually on an afternoon in February.
The event is charitable and open to the community. For details on times, contributions, and how to participate, it is best to contact the organizers.
