Valfloriana Theatre Festival

A mountain theatre tradition

The Valfloriana Theatre Festival is one of the most deeply rooted cultural events in the small municipality of Valfloriana, a mountain village in the Val di Fiemme, in the province of Trento, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Organized by the Valfloriana Cultural Circle, the festival takes place during the winter season—roughly from November to April—at the Casatta Theatre, the main hamlet of the municipality.

Now in its twentieth edition with the 2025-2026 season, the festival has become a long-awaited tradition for the inhabitants of the valley and neighboring towns, who fill the hall to watch performances by local amateur companies.

Trentino amateur theatre in the spotlight

The heart of the festival is amateur (dramatic) theatre, a vibrant reality widespread throughout Trentino. Some of the best companies in the province take turns on the Casatta stage, offering a varied repertoire: brilliant comedies, comic texts in the Trentino dialect, adaptations of great classics, and vaudeville. Companies hosted in recent seasons include GAD Trento, Filo Civezzano, Filo Arcobaleno di Arco, and other local dramatic societies.

A popular and convivial event

The festival maintains the genuine spirit of village initiatives: the entry ticket has a symbolic cost (7 euros in recent editions, with free admission for children and teenagers up to 12 years old), intended to cover expenses and support the activities of the guest companies. The evenings are a social occasion for the community, which finds in theatre a way to come together during the long winter months.

Valfloriana, village of mountain huts and the Matoci Carnival

Set in one of the most characteristic municipalities of the Val di Fiemme, the festival is also an opportunity to discover Valfloriana, famous for its stone mountain huts (masi) scattered along the hillside, the church of San Floriano, and the traditional Matoci Carnival. An authentic setting, far from the major tourist flows, where popular culture continues to thrive thanks to the commitment of local associations.
