The peasant festival of Ostiano featuring gastronomy, music, and agricultural re-enactment
Üstiá ará e cantà — whose name in dialect refers to Ostiano, ploughing, and singing — is a folk festival dedicated to peasant civilization held in Ostiano, in the province of Cremona, along Via Circonvallazione Nordest. It is a young but already deeply felt event, which focuses on the memory of the agricultural world and the town's connection with its countryside and the Oglio River.
The event spans three days, with a program that intertwines typical gastronomy, musical entertainment, and moments of rural culture. At the stands, you can taste traditional local dishes — ribs, tripe, tortelli — accompanied by live music and DJ sets that liven up the evenings. A convivial and family atmosphere that recalls the identity of the Cremona Bassa region.
The heart of the festival is the re-enactment of ancient ploughing, scheduled for the special day dedicated to the agricultural world. Vintage men and tools return to work in the fields to tell the story of how the land was worked before modern agriculture: among the machinery, historical Landini tractors stand out, with ploughs much smaller than today's. The day also includes a speed pulling competition and markets, in a combination of spectacle, memory, and fun.
Üstiá ará e cantà is much more than a food festival: it is a way for the community of Ostiano to preserve and pass on its peasant history. In a territory of the province of Cremona still deeply linked to agriculture, the festival becomes an occasion for intergenerational encounters and the valorization of trades and traditions that risk being lost.
The fourth edition of Üstiá ará e cantà returns to Ostiano from April 17 to 19, 2026, along Via Circonvallazione Nordest. The festival offers a mix of gastronomy, musical entertainment, and rural re-enactments that evoke the peasant identity of the town in the province of Cremona.
At the gastronomic stands, traditional dishes like ribs, tripe, and tortelli are the stars, accompanied by live music and DJ sets in the evenings. The highlight is Sunday, April 19, dedicated to the agricultural world: the core event is the re-enactment of ancient ploughing, with vintage men and machinery at work in the fields, alongside a speed pulling competition and markets.
