The University of Messina's concert season at the Rectorate's Great Hall
The University Concerts are one of the most established cultural traditions of the University of Messina. Now in its 36th edition in 2026, the series is organized by the University in close collaboration with the "Arcangelo Corelli" State Conservatory of Music in Messina, with the support of ERSU. The events are held in the prestigious Rectorate's Great Hall (Aula Magna), located in Piazza Stefano Pugliatti, in the heart of the city of Messina, Sicily.
A hallmark of the season is free admission: the University and the Conservatory offer all members of the university community and the public the opportunity to attend the concerts freely, subject to availability. The events typically take place on Thursday evenings, transforming the Great Hall into a true concert venue and bringing students, faculty, and the public closer to great music.
The repertoire is diverse, ranging from classical and chamber music and baroque pieces to piano recitals and operatic arias dedicated to Italian masters like Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini, as well as crossovers with film scores and tango. The stage features soloists, ensembles, and groups from the Corelli Conservatory, with the participation of both professors and young musicians.
Beyond its artistic value, the University Concerts have a strong educational mission: the series offers students at the University of Messina the chance to attend high-level events and, in some cases, earn academic credits. It serves as a bridge between the academic and musical worlds, renewing the bond between the Peloritan University, the Conservatory, and the city of Messina every year.
The 2026 edition of the University Concerts kicked off on Thursday, March 19 at 9:00 PM in the Rectorate's Great Hall of the University of Messina and concluded in June. Eleven free events, produced with the "Arcangelo Corelli" Conservatory and the support of ERSU, enlivened the musical spring of the Peloritan University.
The program alternated pieces by Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini, pillars of Italian opera, with tango works by Astor Piazzolla ("Adios Nonino", "Oblivion", "Libertango"). All events were free of charge.
