Craft beers, street food, and live music in the medieval village of Sant'Omero
Un Castello di Birra is a festival dedicated to craft beer, street food, and live music that brings the historic center of Sant'Omero to life every June. Located in the heart of Abruzzo, in the Val Vibrata area of Teramo province, the village streets fill with beer taps and long tables for six consecutive nights, turning the medieval alleys and squares into a vibrant beer village.
The event's charm lies in its unique setting: tastings take place throughout the alleys, squares, and ancient fondaci (historic storage cellars) of Sant'Omero's old town, with local buildings and cellars opened specifically for the occasion. Visitors stroll through the illuminated streets, beer in hand, moving from stand to stand in a convivial atmosphere that has made this a staple event for enthusiasts across the Val Vibrata and neighboring provinces.
The heart of the festival is the selection of Italian craft breweries serving their creations directly to visitors. While the first edition featured 26 beers from 11 breweries, the event has grown to offer over 40 labels from nearly 20 Italian and international producers. The tastings are paired with a rich gastronomic selection, including wood-fired pizza, arrosticini, gourmet meat sandwiches, and regional and national street food specialties.
Each evening is animated by live music from various genres and DJ sets, providing entertainment that continues late into the night. The combination of beer, food, and music makes Un Castello di Birra a family-friendly event, with spaces and activities designed for all ages.
The festival is organized by the Pro Loco Sant'Omero APS, with the patronage of the Municipality of Sant'Omero. Launched in 2016 as a fresh addition to the local scene, it has quickly established itself as one of the most anticipated events of the summer in the Teramo area and the entire Abruzzo region, successfully showcasing the village's historic center and attracting visitors from across the Val Vibrata.
From June 16 to 21, 2026, the historic center of Sant'Omero hosted a new edition of Un Castello di Birra. For six evenings, the village transformed into a craft beer village, with Italian breweries, street food, and Abruzzese cuisine distributed among the alleys, squares, and ancient cellars.
As per the festival's tradition, every evening featured alternating live music and DJ sets with bands of various genres, in a convivial and family-friendly atmosphere. The event was organized by the Pro Loco Sant'Omero APS with the patronage of the Municipality.
