The literary and musical festival of Rutigliano
Un Borgo di Libri e Canzoni is the literary and musical festival that brings Rutigliano to life, a town in the Metropolitan City of Bari famous for its terracotta whistles and vibrant historic center. Born from the initiative of the Libreria Barcadoro together with the Municipality of Rutigliano, the festival has established a clear identity over the years: placing books and music on the same stage, creating a dialogue between writing and songwriting.
The festival thrives on two distinct moments. There is the spring edition, with a distinctly literary focus, which brings writers from the Apulian and national scene to the city for a three-day series of presentations at the Auditorium of the Casa delle Associazioni. Then there is the summer soul, integrated into the city's event calendar, which opens up to the great voices of Italian music with concerts in the town's squares and avenues. This dual nature allows the festival to appeal to a wide audience, from passionate readers to live music lovers.
The project is curated by Giambattista Creatore of Libreria Barcadoro, who signs the artistic direction together with the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Rutigliano and the Occupazione e Solidarietร Cooperative. Literary meetings are often moderated and introduced by journalists and local cultural figures, in an informal atmosphere that fosters direct dialogue between authors and readers.
In a region rich with festivals, Un Borgo di Libri e Canzoni stands out for the quality of its guests and its free admission policy, which makes culture accessible to everyone. Strolling through the village of Rutigliano between a presentation and a concert in Puglia is an authentic way to experience the spring and summer of the Bari territory.
The 2026 spring edition of Un Borgo di Libri e Canzoni bore the subtitle "Voci di Puglia", highlighting the focus on local writers without overlooking the great names of national fiction. For three evenings, from April 18 to 20, the Auditorium of the Casa delle Associazioni in Rutigliano hosted eleven book presentations, with authors in direct dialogue with the public.
Among the most anticipated guests were the writer Francesco Carofiglio, the narrator and cartoonist Matteo Bussola, and Gabriella Genisi, author of the successful Commissario Lolita Lobosco series. The meetings, with free admission, were introduced by journalist Gianni Capotorto and artistic director Giambattista Creatore, with greetings from Mayor Giuseppe Valenzano and Councilor for Culture Milena Palumbo.
Literary presentations are held at the Auditorium of the Casa delle Associazioni, on Via Dante Alighieri in Rutigliano (BA). Summer musical events take place in the squares and avenues of the town center.
Rutigliano can be reached by car from the SS16 and SP roads, taking the exit for the Metropolitan City of Bari; the regional capital is about 20 km away. Connections are available by bus and via the Ferrovie del Sud Est railway.
