International craft beer and street food festival in the village of Civitella del Tronto
Un Borgo di Birra is the international craft beer and street food festival that brings the historic center of Civitella del Tronto, in the province of Teramo, to life every summer in the heart of Abruzzo. For an entire week, the medieval alleys of the village—recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy—are filled with beer taps, food stations, and musical stages, along a route that winds from the base of the town up to the walls of the famous Bourbon Fortress.
The event was born in 2014 from an idea by a group of friends from the La Piazzetta Association with the goal of bringing visitors back to the historic center of Civitella del Tronto through a festival capable of entertaining and showcasing the local area. Since then, the festival has grown year after year, exceeding 30,000 visitors throughout the week and establishing itself as one of the main beer festivals in Central Italy.
The heart of the event is the craft beer: over one hundred labels from Italian and international breweries. The selection represents both countries synonymous with brewing tradition, such as Germany, Belgium, and England, and nations at the forefront of the craft beer renaissance, like the United States and Sweden, with forays into Northern European breweries. There is also no shortage of house beers created for the occasion and gluten-free options.
Along the route, dozens of food stalls offer street food specialties and local Abruzzo dishes: pasta, arrosticini, fried snacks, pizza, grilled meats, and desserts. Every evening, throughout the event, multiple musical groups perform at various points in the village, from live concerts in main squares like Piazza Filippi Pepe to DJ sets, creating a festive atmosphere that lasts from early evening until late at night.
During the event, the Fortress of Civitella del Tronto, one of the largest military engineering works in Europe, remains open with extended hours, as does the civic museum, offering visitors the chance to combine tastings with the discovery of the town's historical heritage. The combination of the medieval setting, panoramic views of the Teramo hills, and craft beer culture makes Un Borgo di Birra a unique appointment in the Abruzzo landscape.
The 2026 edition of Un Borgo di Birra, the eleventh of the event, is scheduled in Civitella del Tronto (Teramo) from July 13 to 19, 2026. For seven days, the historic center of the Abruzzo village transforms into the usual international craft beer and street food festival, with beer taps along the entire route, food stations, and live concerts in the squares.
The formula that made the event famous is confirmed: over one hundred Italian and international craft beers, street food and local specialties, music every evening, and the Fortress open for visits with extended hours. The detailed program with the musical line-up and participating breweries will be published by the organization in the weeks preceding the event.
Civitella del Tronto can be reached by car from the A14 motorway (exit Ascoli Piceno – San Benedetto del Tronto or Val Vibrata) by continuing inland; the nearest train stations are in Ascoli Piceno or Sant'Egidio alla Vibrata, with bus connections to the village.
Access to the village and the event is free; glasses and tokens for tastings can be purchased at dedicated points. The event takes place in the evening, roughly from late afternoon until late at night.
We recommend wearing comfortable shoes for the uphill alleys of the historic center and booking accommodation in the village and surrounding areas well in advance during the week of the event.
