The grand parade of allegorical floats in the center of Udine
When Carnival arrives, the historic center of Udine dresses up for a party: confetti, masks, and music invade the streets and squares of the Friulian capital in an event organized by the Municipality of Udine. The Udine Carnival is an eagerly awaited event, especially by families, with a multi-day program culminating in the grand parade.
The most spectacular moment is the parade of allegorical floats on Shrove Monday: dozens of colorful floats, masked groups, musical bands, and majorettes travel through the city streets, from Via Gemona through Via Mercatovecchio to Via Vittorio Veneto, in a procession involving over a thousand participants. A river of color and joy that attracts a large audience along the entire route.
Alongside the parade, the Udine Carnival offers days of entertainment and shows in Piazza Matteotti and Via Mercatovecchio: street artists, jugglers, clowns, soap bubbles, puppet theater, acrobatics, face painting, and much more itinerant entertainment. A program designed for children, making the festival an occasion for shared joy for the entire city.
With free admission and widespread programming in the city center, the Udine Carnival is one of the most beloved winter festivals in the city. For those visiting Udine during this period, it is the perfect opportunity to experience the joyful and popular atmosphere of the Friulian Carnival.
The Udine Carnival 2026 enlivens the center of Udine from February 12th to 17th with shows, entertainment for families, and the traditional parade of masked floats. The highlight is the parade of allegorical floats on Monday, February 16th (Shrove Monday), featuring 17 floats, 9 masked groups, 3 bands, and a majorette group, totaling about 1,200 participants. On other days, street artists, jugglers, clowns, and children's shows animate Piazza Matteotti and Via Mercatovecchio.
