A food and wine journey through the streets of the village of Ortona dei Marsi
Tutti in Cantina is the summer event that draws visitors and enthusiasts every July to the small village of Ortona dei Marsi, a municipality in the Province of L'Aquila nestled at over a thousand meters above sea level along the Valle del Giovenco, in Abruzzo. For one night, the historic center turns into a large pedestrian zone: the village streets and squares are closed to traffic and filled with tables, stalls, and open cellars, creating an itinerant food and wine trail that winds through the entire town.
The heart of the event is the tasting of renowned Abruzzo wines paired with traditional local dishes. Walking through the alleys, visitors discover cellars and corners of the village where they can sample Marsican specialties and the genuine flavors of the Abruzzo mountains, in an authentic and convivial atmosphere. The route is designed as a true gastronomic itinerary: you move from stop to stop, enjoying small bites, glasses of wine, and encounters with the community that welcomes the visitors.
Ortona dei Marsi rises on the slopes of Mount Parasano, in a central position in the Valle del Giovenco, and serves as one of the northern gateways to the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park. Its historic center, which largely escaped the 1915 Marsica earthquake, preserves narrow alleys, picturesque views, and an ancient urban layout that provides the ideal backdrop for the festival. Strolling through the cellars during the event also means rediscovering the history and identity of this corner of inland Abruzzo.
The event is not just about food and wine: the evening continues with music and festive moments, with a final gathering in the village squares to keep the spirit alive. Thanks to a special permit granted by the Municipality, the serving of drinks is allowed until the early hours of the morning, extending the festive atmosphere until dawn.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Ortona dei Marsi APS, an association active in promoting the territory and traditions of the Valle del Giovenco. Tutti in Cantina represents one of the most cherished events of the Ortona summer, capable of uniting gastronomy, culture, and community in a single night of celebration in the heart of the Marsica region.
On Saturday, July 11, 2026, the historic center of Ortona dei Marsi will host a new edition of Tutti in Cantina. The food and wine trail opens at 5:30 PM and winds through the village streets and squares, which will be transformed into a pedestrian zone starting from the early afternoon.
The stars of the evening are Abruzzo wines and traditional local dishes, to be tasted from cellar to cellar along the village alleys. The party continues with music and conviviality: thanks to a special permit granted by the Municipality, drinks can be served until 5:00 AM on Sunday, July 12. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Ortona dei Marsi APS.
Ortona dei Marsi can be reached by car from the A25 motorway (Pescina or Cocullo exit), continuing towards the Valle del Giovenco. The nearest train station is Pescina, on the Rome-Pescara-Sulmona line. Given the village's mountain location, traveling by car is recommended.
During the event, the historic center becomes a pedestrian zone: the main squares and streets (including Piazza Guglielmo Marconi, Piazza Giovanni Battista, and Via Piano) are closed to traffic. It is advisable to park in the areas outside the center.
