Tuscia in Jazz for ALS on the Beach is the summer, seaside spin-off of a festival that has been bringing jazz to the historic villages of the Viterbo province for over twenty years. After a long journey through theaters, auditoriums, and historic squares, the event arrives on the coast for the first time: the public beach facing Piazzale Tirreno in Montalto Marina, within the municipality of Montalto di Castro, in the province of Viterbo, Northern Lazio.

The formula is simple and effective: it begins at sunset as the light fades over the Tyrrhenian Sea and continues until late evening with a second concert. The audience listens while sitting on the sand in a space set up by the Municipality, with completely free admission.

Music and solidarity: why "for ALS"

Founded in 2002 as the Tuscia jazz festival, the event transformed in 2023 into Tuscia in Jazz for ALS, linking every concert to fundraising for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research and patient support. The project was born from the desire of artistic director Italo Leali to turn a personal experience into concrete support, and today it involves dozens of municipalities in the province, the University of Tuscia, and numerous institutional partners.

The solidarity aspect is not just a label: the voluntary donations collected during the evenings and the proceeds from the wine tastings go entirely to the cause. Great attention is also paid to accessibility, with the removal of architectural barriers on the beach so that no one is left out.

Tuscia wines under the stars

Next to the stage, a guided tasting curated by food and wine expert Carlo Zucchetti takes place every evening, served by F.I.S.A.R. sommeliers and featuring a selection of wineries from the Viterbo area. With a symbolic contribution, you receive a commemorative glass and the chance to sample Tuscia labels: from the volcanic whites of the Bolsena and Vico lakes to the reds of the coastal strip.

A territory to discover

Montalto di Castro is not just about the sea. A few kilometers from the beach lies the Vulci Archaeological Park, one of the great Etruscan cities of the Mediterranean, featuring the necropolis, the Castello dell'Abbadia, and the Devil's Bridge over the Fiora River. The long, sandy coastline is among the most popular in the Viterbo area, offering beach clubs, public beaches, and excellent summer hospitality.

Those arriving for the concerts will find much more than just a musical evening: a perfect weekend combining Etruscan archaeology, seafood cuisine, and Tuscia wines in a part of Lazio still largely untouched by mass tourism.
