Chioggia's Regatta
The Trofeo Velico La Chioggiolana is the coastal regatta organised by the Italian Naval League – Chioggia section, in the province of Venice. It takes place every spring in the sea off the lagoon city and Sottomarina, attracting dozens of boats of various classes.
The Course
The course starts beyond the 'lunata' (moon curve) of Chioggia's port, a beat along the coast towards Sottomarina and back, with the finish line at the historic Ponte di Vigo, the city's symbol. A course that brings sailing into close contact with the inhabited centre, making the regatta spectacular even for those watching from the shore.
Sport and Values
Among the participating boats are those from the 'Mare di Legalità' project, which links sailing sport with the values of legality and inclusion. The event is sponsored by the FIV (Italian Sailing Federation), the FISI, and the Veneto Region, confirming its institutional and territorial roots.
La Chioggiolana — edition 2026
The 4th edition of the Trofeo Velico La Chioggiolana was held on May 10, 2026, with 52 boats registered, despite unfavourable weather forecasts. The race committee shortened the course, positioning the finish line within the port's 'lunata', allowing crews the option to return to port under sail along the canal.
The first boat to cross the finish line was Fly, skippered by Massimo Dainese, in 50 minutes and 5 seconds, dominating the real-time standings in the Open B class. The novelty of this edition was the ski-sail combination with the Yacht Club Cortina d'Ampezzo, which integrated the results of the ski race held on March 22 at Col Gallina, won by Circolo Nautico Chioggia – Il Portodimare.

How to get there
Chioggia is reachable by car via the SS309 Romea. By train to Venice or Rovigo, then by bus. The regatta can be watched from the port banks and the Ponte di Vigo.
Participation
Regatta reserved for registered boats. For spectators, viewing from the shore along the banks and at the Ponte di Vigo is free.
