The youth cycling race on the Bagheria city circuit
The Trofeo San Giuseppe is a cycling event entirely dedicated to youth categories, held in Bagheria, a prominent town in the province of Palermo (Sicily). Every year, the heart of the city turns into a genuine race circuit, where around 150 young athletes from all over the island compete. The event is reserved for the Giovanissimi (G1-G6) categories, which include children aged 7 to 12, and serves as a qualifying stage for the Coppa Sicilia Strada Giovanissimi of the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI).
The track winds through a city loop with the start and finish line on Via Diego D'Amico, in front of the Cirrincione school, passing through some of the most well-known streets in the center, such as Via Roma and Via Roccaforte. It is a short but technical and fast course, designed to test the skills of young cyclists in complete safety, with the support of volunteers and families cheering from the sidewalks.
Organized by the GDS Team Pro Competition club under the aegis of the FCI and with the patronage of the Municipality of Bagheria, the Trofeo San Giuseppe is much more than a simple competition: it is an educational and inclusive occasion, a moment of sporting development where children learn the values of sport by competing with peers from all over Sicily. The awards ceremony, held at the end of all heats, is open to all participants to celebrate their commitment and passion. For the local and regional sporting community, it has become a highly anticipated appointment that combines competition, a local festival atmosphere, and the promotion of the Bagheria area.
The event takes place within a city famous for its Baroque villas, most notably Villa Palagonia with its celebrated stone monsters. Participating in the Trofeo San Giuseppe therefore also means discovering a precious corner of the Palermo territory, just a stone's throw from the sea and the beauty of the gulf.
The 4th edition of the Trofeo San Giuseppe returned on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Bagheria, confirming its status as a benchmark event for Sicilian youth cycling. On the city circuit of Via Diego D'Amico, about 150 young athletes from the Giovanissimi categories gathered, arriving from all over the island for a day of sport and celebration.
The event was valid as the fourth stage of the Coppa Sicilia Strada Giovanissimi of the Italian Cycling Federation, organized by GDS Team Pro Competition with the patronage of the Municipality of Bagheria.
