Masks, colors, and music along the shores of Lake Bracciano
The Trevignano Carnival is the grand masquerade festival of Trevignano Romano, one of the most picturesque villages on Lake Bracciano, located in the Metropolitan City of Rome, Lazio. After a few years where the town's carnival tradition had faded, in 2025 the FesteggiAmo Trevignano APS Association brought the costume parade back to life, restoring a highly anticipated event for families and children.
The heart of the event is the masquerade parade through the town streets, starting from the Via della Rena parking lot, right next to the beach. The colorful procession winds along the Trevignano Romano promenade, a unique setting: on one side, the waters of Lake Bracciano, and on the other, the historic center nestled beneath the fortress. Masked groups, families, children in costume, and curious onlookers mingle in a river of confetti, colors, and music.
Participation is free and open to everyone: anyone can join the procession in their favorite costume, whether solo or in a group. The organizing association encourages masked groups to come forward to enrich the parade with new ideas and choreography. At the end of the procession, the party continues with a DJ set that keeps the square dancing until sunset.
The Trevignano Carnival is a completely free event, designed for both adults and children. It is a village festival in the most authentic sense of the term: no tickets, no fences, just the desire to be together and have fun in costume. For children, it is a chance to parade in their favorite outfits, while for adults, it is a pretext to rediscover the lighthearted spirit of Carnival.
In 2026, the parade was originally scheduled for Saturday, February 7, but bad weather forced the organizers to postpone it. The Trevignano Carnival ultimately took place on Sunday, February 15, 2026, with the procession starting at 2:30 PM and the party lasting until 6:00 PM. A choice rewarded by the public, who rediscovered the pleasure of parading along the lake.
The Carnival is also an excellent opportunity to visit Trevignano Romano, a village of Etruscan and medieval origins overlooking the northern shore of Lake Bracciano, within the Bracciano-Martignano Regional Natural Park. The historic center, with its alleys climbing toward the ruins of the Rocca Orsini, the Church of the Assumption, and the promenade with its lake-fish restaurants, is well worth a stroll before or after the parade. The Municipality of Trevignano Romano and the tourist information office support the event, which is part of the calendar of activities that enliven the Lazio village throughout the year.
Alongside the lakeside parade, Trevignano Romano has hosted other carnival initiatives over the years, such as children's parties at the municipal playground and the parish. The Trevignano Carnival, with its procession through the town streets, is now the main event, bringing the entire community together during the most colorful time of the year.
The 2026 Trevignano Carnival was originally scheduled for Saturday, February 7, but adverse weather conditions prompted the organizers to postpone the festivities to Sunday, February 15, 2026. The masquerade parade departed at 2:30 PM from the Via della Rena parking lot, near the beach, and wound its way through the town streets and along the shores of Lake Bracciano.
Masks, colors, music, and fun for all ages enlivened the afternoon, which concluded with a DJ set open to everyone until 6:00 PM. Participation was free: anyone could join the procession in their own costume, and interested masked groups could contact the FesteggiAmo Trevignano APS association, which organized the event with the support of the Municipality of Trevignano Romano, in advance.
By car: From Rome, take the Via Cassia or Cassia bis to Trevignano Romano (approx. 45 km); parking is available on Via della Rena, next to the beach, which is the starting point of the parade. By bus: Cotral lines from Rome Saxa Rubra via Bracciano.
Free event, open participation, costumes welcome.
