The spring preview of manouche jazz on the Pistoia Mountains
In the heart of the Pistoia Mountains, in the village of Tafoni within the municipality of San Marcello Piteglio (Province of Pistoia, Tuscany), the Toscana Django Spring Festival brings three days of swing and manouche jazz to the cozy setting of the Circolo L'Unione. This is the spring preview of the larger Toscana Django Festival, whose main edition takes place in August. Created to provide continuity to the summer event, this spring version has quickly established itself as a highly anticipated moment for fans of the genre.
The festival is entirely dedicated to manouche jazz, the guitar style invented by the legendary Django Reinhardt and still vibrant across Europe today. In Tafoni, this tradition blends with folk music, world music, and improvisation in an informal atmosphere where established musicians and students share the same stage. The evenings regularly conclude with collective jam sessions that last until late at night, the true beating heart of the event.
The program weaves together three themes: evening concerts featuring Italian and international guests, workshops for manouche guitar and singing with final performances, and masterclasses led by guest artists. Students attending the workshops perform in a final recital on Sunday, sealing a journey that combines listening, study, and live practice.
Beyond the music, the spring preview celebrates the Pistoia Mountains region: Sunday is dedicated to tasting local products curated by the Accademia degli Infarinati, while the Circolo L'Unione offers the chance to dine in good company, turning the festival into a convivial occasion. The event is organized by the Associazione Quintocanto ETS, with artistic direction by guitarist Maurizio Geri, a leading figure in the Tuscan manouche scene.
The 2026 edition of the Toscana Django Spring Festival took place from May 1st to 3rd in Tafoni, a village in San Marcello Piteglio, at the Circolo L'Unione. Three intense days of concerts, workshops, and convivial moments, under the artistic direction of Maurizio Geri and organized by the Associazione Quintocanto ETS. The headline guest was the Flemish musician Tcha Limberger, accompanied by an exceptional Italian trio, followed by the voice of Luisa Cottifogli and the Emilian quartet Officina del Battagliero. There was no shortage of late-night jam sessions and an exhibition of guitars by the luthier Wandrรจ.
