The medieval reenactment and Liguria's most famous wedding cake
The Torta dei Fieschi is the grand historical festival of Lavagna, in the Tigullio area of the Metropolitan City of Genoa. The event commemorates the wedding celebrated in 1230 between Opizzo Fiesco, a member of the powerful Counts of Lavagna family, and Bianca de' Bianchi. A wedding feast that popular tradition has transformed, for over seventy years, into one of the most beloved events of the Ligurian summer.
The heart of the reenactment is the historical procession, with about 150 participants in medieval costume: the Sestieri of Lavagna, musicians, flag-wavers, and the Cavalieri del Fiesco parade through the streets of the town centre, recreating the atmosphere of the 13th century. A spectacular tribute to the intertwining of history and legend.
The most anticipated moment is the cutting of the wedding cake, a creation weighing over ten quintals made by Lavagna's historic pastry shops and distributed free to all attendees. To receive a slice, you must participate in the famous 'gioco delle coppie': you buy a card, blue for men and pink for women, and whoever finds the person with the corresponding name card forms a couple and gets a slice. A game of encounters that animates Piazza Vittorio Veneto every year.
The 2026 edition of the Torta dei Fieschi takes place on August 14th in Piazza Vittorio Veneto and the historic centre of Lavagna. The day commemorates the 1230 wedding between Opizzo Fiesco and Bianca de' Bianchi, with the grand historical procession in costume.
The highlights include the cutting of the wedding cake weighing over ten quintals and the famous 'gioco delle coppie'. On August 13th, in Cogorno, the related event "Addio do Fantin" takes place.
