The cross-country mountain bike race that kicks off the Canavese season
As winter draws to a close, the small town of Torre Canavese, in the province of Turin, becomes the capital of Piedmontese mountain biking for an entire weekend. The Torre Race is an Olympic cross-country (XCO) event that attracts hundreds of athletes from all over Piedmont and the rest of Italy, transforming the Canavese hills into a major off-road circuit.
The track winds along Via San Grato, on a hilly loop of about 4.5 kilometers, 90% of which is unpaved. It is a true course, featuring challenging climbs and rapid technical descents that test the legs and handling skills of every biker. This combination of physical exertion and technicality has made the Torre Race a highly regarded competition, considered by off-roaders as an ideal testing ground to kick off the racing season.
The event, carefully organized by the Racing Team Torre ASD, spans two days. The first is reserved for Open, Elite, and Master categories and serves as the first round of the Coppa Piemonte XCO, the regional circuit of the Italian Cycling Federation. The second day is dedicated to younger riders, with the start of the Esordienti, Allievi, and Juniores categories as part of the national Club Championship: an appointment that fills the track with the future stars of off-road cycling and their families.
The Torre Race is more than just a race: it is a celebration for Torre Canavese and the entire Canavese area, a corner of Piedmont where a passion for cycling and a love for the hilly landscape intertwine. The local organization, the support of the Federation, and the enthusiasm of the public make this two-day event one of the most exciting highlights of the early season for the mountain bike movement in Northern Italy.
The 2026 Torre Race took place in Torre Canavese (TO) on Saturday, February 28, and Sunday, March 1, 2026, inaugurating the first edition of the national NorthX Series Cup XCO circuit and opening the Piedmontese off-road season. Organized by the Racing Team Torre, the two-day event attracted over 700 athletes from Piedmont and the rest of Italy. On Saturday, with just under 120 participants, the first round of the Coppa Piemonte XCO was held; on Sunday, about 600 young riders competed in the Club Championship. The event, praised by the Italian Cycling Federation, lived up to the expectations of mountain bike enthusiasts.
