The Roman neighborhood's costume parade, featuring confetti, prizes, and commemorative medals
The Tor Tre Teste Carnival is one of the longest-running popular festivals in the Municipio V district of Rome, in the Lazio region. Born in the early nineties as a local initiative, it reached its 33rd edition in 2026: a rare milestone for an event created from the ground up, without major funding, and grown thanks to the tenacity of local associations and the participation of neighborhood families.
The heart of the festivities is the Giardino dei Demar, the playground at Via Davide Campari 263 that has hosted the parade for years and provides its facilities, including covered pavilions used in case of rain. A well-established network revolves around the event: the Lepetit Cultural Center, the Friends of the Park association, local newspapers Abitare A and Abitarearoma, and numerous local commercial sponsors.
The most anticipated moment is the costume parade, which takes place on the Sunday afternoon of Carnival. These are not monumental allegorical floats like those in Viareggio or Ronciglione: here, the stars are homemade costumes, often sewn by parents and grandparents, which parade before a jury tasked with rewarding the wittiest and most original masks. Every participant receives a commemorative medal, and winners receive trophies and prizes offered by sponsors.
Surrounding the parade is a program designed for children: professional entertainers, mascots, stilt walkers, magic shows, the classic confetti battle, and prize raffles. Recent editions have also added a collective carnival dance and the distribution of traditional Roman sweets, from castagnole to frappe.
For the past couple of years, the festival has expanded with a second day dedicated to neighborhood schools, organized by the Nuova Tor Tre Teste Attiva Neighborhood Committee with the patronage of Municipio V. On Shrove Tuesday, over five hundred children parade through the streets of the neighborhood in a colorful procession built around a theme: in 2026, the common thread was a journey from prehistory to space, passing through various professions, with miniature doctors, cooks, builders, and postmen. The procession concludes in the afternoon at the Giardino dei Demar, where the party continues with entertainment and confetti.
Tor Tre Teste is not a tourist district: it is a residential area of East Rome known to architecture enthusiasts for Richard Meier's Jubilee Church, with its three famous white sails, and for the large urban park that provides breathing room to the urban fabric. The Carnival tells the story of this peripheral Rome well, made up of committees, parishes, and associations that keep neighborhood social life alive.
It is an event with a deliberately contained scale, where hospitality counts more than spectacle: those arriving from outside the neighborhood will find an authentic carnival, managed by volunteers, ideal for letting children experience a day of celebration without the crowds of the major events in the historic center.
Three days of festivities in the Tor Tre Teste district of Rome for an edition that confirmed the tried-and-tested formula: Shrove Thursday and Shrove Tuesday dedicated to park entertainment, and Sunday reserved for the competitive costume parade.
On Sunday, February 15, from 3:00 PM, the Giardino dei Demar at Via Davide Campari 263 hosted the main event. The masks paraded before the jury, which awarded the wittiest and most original costumes; all participants received the commemorative medal offered by the park. The day was accompanied by 4events entertainers, mascots, and stilt walkers, a Harlequin show, a confetti battle, and a raffle of prizes provided by neighborhood sponsors.
On Tuesday, February 17, for the second consecutive year, the Nuova Tor Tre Teste Attiva Neighborhood Committee organized the school procession: over five hundred children walked through the neighborhood streets in costumes inspired by a journey from prehistory to space, passing through various professions. The afternoon concluded at the Giardino dei Demar, from 4:30 PM, with entertainment, a carnival dance, and the distribution of fritters.
The Giardino dei Demar is located at Via Davide Campari 263, in the Tor Tre Teste district (Municipio V of Rome). By car, it can be reached from Via Prenestina or Via Casilina, exiting the Grande Raccordo Anulare; street parking is generally available in the area. By public transport, you can use the Atac surface lines that connect the Torre Maura and Teano Metro C stations or the Ponte Mammolo Metro B stop, with a transfer to a bus heading towards Tor Tre Teste.
Participation in the costume parade requires a registration fee of 7 euros per person, for both adults and children, which includes the commemorative medal. Registrations are collected in the days leading up to the event directly at the Giardino dei Demar, at Via Davide Campari 263, or by calling 06 2286653 or 392 7159782. Watching the festival from the outside is free.
Arriving a little early helps to complete registration without queues. In case of bad weather, the event is not cancelled but moves to the park's covered pavilions. The park has an internal bar; for those coming from afar, the area is well served by neighborhood businesses and is located about twenty minutes by car from the center of Rome.
