The Music Festival arrives in Tivoli

On June 21st, coinciding with the summer solstice, all of Europe celebrates the Music Festival. Born in France in 1982 and promoted in Italy by the Ministry of Culture, the event transforms the squares, courtyards, and streets of hundreds of cities into open-air stages every year, offering free concerts for everyone. In 2026, for its 32nd Italian edition, Tivoli officially joined the national circuit. The Municipality of Tivoli embraced the Music Festival network with a widespread program titled "The Voice of Places, the Music of the Tiburtini," designed to showcase both local artists and the city's most evocative corners.

The format follows the traditional Music Festival style: free, scattered events without a single central stage. On June 21st, the city comes alive with music from Parco Arcobaleno to Piazza Garibaldi, and from the Scuderie Estensi to the Cathedral, with a deliberately diverse musical lineup spanning rock, pop, singer-songwriter tracks, and DJ sets. To build the program, the municipal administration opened a call for interest to soloists, bands, choirs, DJs, music schools, academies, and cultural associations, welcoming participation from local, national, and international artists—a way to make the festival a tool for bringing people, generations, and different sensibilities together.

Young talents and international jazz

Alongside the scattered events, the Accademia Ergo Cantemus – Coro ed Orchestra Città di Tivoli presents two flagship appointments. On Saturday evening, the Church of San Biagio in Piazza Plebiscito hosts a concert by the "Papillon" Youth Orchestra, a group of about fifty young musicians conducted by Maestro Roberto Nobilio: a significant moment for highlighting the new generation. On Sunday, in the charming setting of Piazza Palatina, "American Jazz" by BossaNova Music takes the stage, a journey through American jazz and bossa nova sounds with soloists like Massimo Paffi on trumpet and Salvatore Pittà on sax, in a repertoire that blends elegance, improvisation, and great musical tradition.

The solidarity roots of the Tivoli festival

Before its official debut in the ministerial circuit, the Music Festival had already resonated in Tivoli with a focus on solidarity. In 2025, the Young Caritas of Tivoli organized a live marathon in the recently restored Church of San Vincenzo Martire, featuring over ten emerging artists from Tivoli and Rome, with donations collected for the diocesan Caritas canteen, dormitory, and family home. This participatory and community-driven soul remains the heart of the event.

Tivoli, a natural stage in Lazio

Nestled on the slopes of the Tiburtini Mountains, in the Metropolitan City of Rome, Tivoli is one of the most fascinating destinations in Lazio. Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este (UNESCO World Heritage sites), the Villa Gregoriana Park, and the Sanctuary of Hercules Victor provide the backdrop for a millenary city of art.
