Tipica - Gastronomic Route

A Journey of Taste Through the Village Alleys

Tipica is the great gastronomic festival of Vietri di Potenza, in the province of Potenza, also known as the Festival of Oil and Vietri Specialties. Every year, in mid-August, the historic center is transformed into a tasting route that winds through the most characteristic alleys to the town's squares, from Vigna della Corte to Piazza del Popolo.

Oil, Vietri's Gold

The true star of the event is the extra virgin olive oil, defined as "Vietri's gold": Vietri di Potenza is indeed recognized as a City of Oil. Alongside the oil, primarily served on bruschetta, local cuisine specialties are showcased: cruschi peppers, goat cheeses, provolone, calzones, ciambotta (vegetable stew), arrosticini (lamb skewers), strufoli (fried dough balls), parmariedd and cavatiedd (types of pasta), traditional sweets, and local wines and craft beers. To purchase tastings, visitors use the "Vietri currency," minted specifically for the occasion and available in the main squares.

Music and Atmosphere

Throughout the two evenings, the tasting route is accompanied by itinerant musical groups and live concerts, with folk and popular music bands animating the alleys and squares of the village. The event attracts around ten thousand visitors each year, becoming one of the most popular gastronomic events in the inland Basilicata region.

In the Heart of Vietri's Ferragosto

Tipica traditionally opens the program for Vietri's Ferragosto celebrations, preceding the major concerts and shows of the following days. Organized by the Municipality of Vietri di Potenza with the Pro Loco and local associations, the event combines the promotion of typical products, conviviality, and the rediscovery of the historic center.
