Silk, the Lake, and Memory

In Abbadia Lariana, in the Province of Lecco, silk is not an abstract memory: it is a real factory, preserved intact. When the Monti family, silk workers, arrived in this village overlooking Lake Como in 1818 to set up a throwing mill for yarn processing, they began an industrial history that can still be touched today. Le Vie della Seta was created to tell this very heritage, in a day that combines culture, music, and landscape.

The Civico Museo Setificio Monti

The heart of the event is the Civico Museo Setificio Monti, at Via Nazionale 107, one of the most important examples of industrial archaeology in Lombardy. It preserves original furnishings, machinery, and objects from silk production, including an imposing 18th-century circular throwing machine. During Le Vie della Seta, the museum opens exceptionally, with free guided tours that allow visitors to discover up close the machines and gestures of a lost craft.

Larian Traditions 2026

Le Vie della Seta is part of the shared calendar of Larian Traditions 2026, a series of events involving ten municipalities in the Lecco area to promote the culture, history, and identity of the shores of Lake Como. The Abbadia Lariana event, in particular, dialogues with the theme of silk and navigation, in the year of the bicentenary of the launch of the first steamship on Lake Lario.
