The Faces of Rome (Spazio Scena)

A tribute to the faces that made Rome famous

The Faces of Rome is the film series that, every Friday from mid-April to early June 2026, brings Spazio Scena to life—the new cultural center housed in the historic former Filmstudio at Via degli Orti d'Alibert 1, in the heart of Trastevere, Rome. The series pays homage to the great actors and actresses who made the Capital world-famous through cinema, featuring restored prints provided by the Cineteca Nazionale.

The initiative is a collaboration between LAZIOcrea, the in-house company of the Lazio Region, and the CSC - Cineteca Nazionale, and is curated by Steve Della Casa, film historian, critic, and curator of the Cineteca Nazionale. Admission to all screenings is free.

The stars of Italian cinema on the big screen

This edition's program explores some of the most beloved faces in the history of Italian cinema. It begins with Anna Magnani, unforgettable in Luchino Visconti's Bellissima and Pier Paolo Pasolini's Mamma Roma, two poignant portraits of Roman women. It continues with the irony and humanity of Nino Manfredi, the melancholic elegance of Monica Vitti, and the comic genius of Alberto Sordi, the quintessential Roman actor. Each screening is an opportunity to rediscover, in a theater and on restored film, masterpieces that belong to the country's collective memory.

Spazio Scena, the legacy of the Filmstudio

The series is part of the rich program at Spazio Scena, a venue that carries on the legacy of the legendary Filmstudio, a historic Roman art-house cinema that served as a landmark for generations of cinephiles. Thanks to the Lazio Region and LAZIOcrea, after years of neglect, these spaces have returned to life as a center dedicated to cinema, literature, photography, and new arts. Parallel to 'The Faces of Rome', Thursdays are dedicated to the Le Follie del Documentario series, featuring meetings and screenings with the directors.
