About The Befane Arrive
Epiphany in the heart of the town
Every January 6th, the tradition of Epiphany is revived in Fonzaso, in the province of Belluno, with the event "Arrivano le Befane" (The Befane Arrive). Piazza I Novembre becomes the meeting point for families and children, who await the arrival of the Befane: the friendly old women of Italian popular tradition who, according to legend, fill stockings with sweets and coal on the night between January 5th and 6th.
A celebration for children
The initiative, curated by the Pro Loco of Fonzaso APS, is designed especially for the little ones: the Befane distribute sweets, candies, and stockings, amidst music and a festive atmosphere. It is the moment that ideally closes the town's Christmas festivities, after the tree lighting and December markets.
A Belluno tradition
The Befana is one of the most beloved figures in Italian folklore, and in the Belluno area, at the foot of the Dolomites, Epiphany retains an authentic and familiar flavor. In Fonzaso, the celebration is simple and popular, an opportunity to gather in the square in the January cold and bring a smile to the children's faces.
The Befane Arrive — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of "Arrivano le Befane" took place on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in Piazza I Novembre, starting at 3:00 PM. The Pro Loco of Fonzaso welcomed children and families with the distribution of sweets and stockings, in an afternoon dedicated to Epiphany.
The event concluded the calendar of Fonzaso's Christmas festivities, following the December markets and tree lighting.

How to get there
Fonzaso is located in the province of Belluno, along the SS47 of the Valsugana, near Feltre. By car from the A31 motorway or the SS47; the reference train station is Feltre, connected by bus.
Admission
The event takes place outdoors in Piazza I Novembre on the afternoon of January 6th and is free and open to all.
