In San Zeno di Cassola, a small hamlet in the Municipality of Cassola in the province of Vicenza, the arrival of spring coincides with one of the most anticipated festivals in the Bassano area: L'Asparago e Dintorni. For about eleven days, from late April to mid-May, Piazza San Zeno transforms into the kingdom of White Asparagus of Bassano DOP, the ivory-white vegetable with a delicate, slightly bitter taste that has made this slice of flat Veneto between the Brenta River and the Grappa Massif famous.
A Festival Under the Marquee
The heart of the event is the large marquee set up in the square, where every evening the food stand offers traditional Venetian dishes enhanced by asparagus: from risottos to the classic "asparagus and eggs" preparations, not to mention local specialties. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is that of convivial village festivals, with orchestras, tribute bands, and themed evenings alternating throughout the schedule.
The DOP Competition Exhibition
The highlight is the Competition Exhibition of White Asparagus of Bassano DOP, which in 2026 will reach its 22nd edition, organized in collaboration with the protection consortium. It is an opportunity to meet the best producers, buy asparagus and DOP and IGP products from Veneto, and award the most beautiful bunches. A non-competitive walk through the asparagus fields completes the picture of a festival that combines taste, popular tradition, and territorial identity.
The Asparagus and Surroundings — edition 2026
The L'Asparago e Dintorni 2026 festival opens on April 30 in Piazza San Zeno and continues until May 10. The heart of the edition is the 22nd Competition Exhibition of White Asparagus of Bassano DOP on Friday, May 1st, with awards ceremony at 7:00 PM and the opportunity to purchase asparagus and DOP and IGP products from Veneto. The food stand under the marquee offers traditional Venetian asparagus dishes every evening, accompanied by orchestras and tribute bands.

How to get here
San Zeno di Cassola is located along the road between Bassano del Grappa and Cittadella. By car, take the A31 Valdastico (Dueville-Thiene) or SS47 Valsugana highway exit; the hamlet is a few minutes from Bassano del Grappa. By train, get off at Bassano del Grappa station, then take a bus or taxi.
Admission and dining
Free admission. The food stand is open every evening; also for lunch on weekends. Reservations are recommended for themed gourmet evenings.
