The 10 km road race at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, where no one is left behind
Terzigno Corre is the road race that transforms the streets of Terzigno, a town in the Vesuvius area of the province of Naples, into a long, colourful ribbon of runners every autumn. The event is organised by A.S.D. Terzigno Corre, an amateur sports association founded in September 2015 and led by president Genny Galantuomo, with the patronage of the Municipality of Terzigno, CONI, and Opes Italia. Within a few years, the race has become a staple of the Campania running calendar, attracting clubs and athletes from across the region.
The race covers the classic 10-kilometre distance, designed as a city circuit to be completed in laps: a fast yet challenging track with a mix of asphalt and cobblestone surfaces that winds through the town centre. In recent editions, the route has included Via Fiume, Via Diaz, Viale Vanvitelli, and Corso Alessandro Volta, with the start and finish line in Piazza Borgonuovo, near Via San Pasquale, and a maximum time limit of one and a half hours. Timing is managed via electronic chip, with general, club, and category rankings.
The defining feature of Terzigno Corre, however, is not the stopwatch. The association has built its identity around the belief that running is a right for everyone: for years, athletes with disabilities—including those with visual impairments or mobility challenges—have taken part thanks to the special Maddy wheelchair and the joëlette, pushed by their teammates. The event's motto—"with us, no one is left behind"—encapsulates a spirit that has made the race a model of inclusive sport in the Vesuvius hinterland, with initiatives also dedicated to children and local schools.
Race Sunday is preceded by traditional build-up events: the public presentation of the race, bib and race pack collection, and meetings with local associations. The streets fill with residents cheering on the runners, while younger spectators watch the pack pass by from the pavements. Like many popular races in Southern Italy, it is an event that matters as much for the community spirit it fosters as it does for the race results.
Running in Terzigno means running on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, within the National Park, in a town famous for its vineyards and the cherry tomatoes grown in volcanic soil. The scenic landscape and proximity to Pompeii, Ottaviano, and Boscoreale make the trip worthwhile for runners arriving from outside the province who wish to combine the race with a visit to the Vesuvius area.
The next edition of Terzigno Corre is announced for Sunday, 8 November 2026, covering the 10-kilometre distance, maintaining the autumn slot that has characterised the Vesuvius race in recent years. The event is listed in the Campania running calendars and will bring runners back to the streets of the Terzigno municipality, in the province of Naples.
At the moment, the organisation, led by A.S.D. Terzigno Corre, has not yet released the flyer with the full programme: meeting and start times, the final route, registration fees, and deadlines will be communicated in the weeks leading up to the race through the association's official channels and registration platforms. Those intending to participate can keep an eye on the association's Facebook page, where updates and information on bib collection are published.
The detailed programme for the 2026 edition has not yet been published by the organisers. The date of Sunday, 8 November 2026, is confirmed for the 10-kilometre road race; times, the final route, and registration methods will be released by A.S.D. Terzigno Corre in the weeks preceding the event.
Terzigno is located on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, in the province of Naples. By car, it can be reached via the A3 Naples-Salerno motorway (Torre Annunziata Sud or Angri exit), continuing along provincial roads towards the interior. By train, the Circumvesuviana Naples-Poggiomarino line serves the stations in the Vesuvius area, with bus connections to the town centre.
In recent editions, the meeting point, start, and finish line have been located in Piazza Borgonuovo, near Via San Pasquale, where bib collection and the awards ceremony also take place.
Registration is done online via the timing platform indicated by the organisers, with entries closing in the days leading up to the race and a maximum number of participants. In recent editions, the fee has been approximately 10 euros, with a discount for those who own a personal chip.
