Staffolo's Verdicchio told vineyard by vineyard
In Staffolo, a small hilltop village in the province of Ancona overlooking the Verdicchio valleys, Terravite is born: a wine tourism event designed to tell the story of wine starting from the place where it takes shape, the land. Promoted by local producers, Terravite takes visitors directly among the vines, transforming a day of tasting into a true journey through the landscape of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi.
The heart of Terravite is an itinerary divided into four stages in the historic vineyard areas of Staffolo, each with its own soil identity and exposure. At each stop, participants taste the wines produced in that specific area, while the narrative focuses on the soils, microclimates, and morphology of the hills. The four souls of the territory are:
Guiding the journey are eighteen local wineries, united by the same passion and the desire to tell their land without filters. Guided tastings allow for a comparison of the different expressions of Verdicchio, observing the vineyards from panoramic viewpoints and tasting, stop by stop, the wines that originate from those soils. It's a concrete way to understand why Staffolo's Verdicchio has such different nuances just a few hundred meters apart.
Staffolo has always been linked to the iconic white wine of the Marche region: the village, which traditionally hosts the Verdicchio Festival, boasts a winemaking history that has helped make Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi known in Italy and abroad. With Terravite, the Municipality and its producers choose to go beyond simple tasting, focusing on the terroir: the zoning of the vineyard areas, still in the process of definition, is the common thread of a day that combines wine culture, landscape knowledge, and Marche hospitality. Mayor Sauro Ragni emphasized that the event stems from a shared vision and a union of intent from the entire territory.
The inaugural edition of Terravite debuted on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Staffolo, marking the birth of a new event dedicated to Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and its territory. The day was structured as a journey through the hills of the Ancona village, with the wine told directly in the vineyards from which it originates.
Eighteen local wineries accompanied participants along an itinerary through the historic vineyard areas, with the support of the municipal administration led by Mayor Sauro Ragni.
