Sacred and classical music in the Bramante-designed temple of Capranica Prenestina, from summer through to the Ferragosto Concert
The Tempio della Maddalena Concert Season is a musical festival that brings Capranica Prenestina to life every summer, a charming village in the Metropolitan City of Rome, Lazio. Performances are held within the Tempio della Maddalena, an elegant central-plan structure attributed to Bramante, offering a setting of rare architectural beauty and acoustics perfectly suited for chamber and sacred music.
The festival is the result of the Cappella Musicale della Maddalena's dedication and is part of a broader Religious Summer project promoted by Father Davide Martinelli. It aims to transform the village into a vibrant cultural hub where sensitivity, art, music, and spirituality converge. It is more than just a concert series; it is a journey that accompanies residents and visitors throughout the summer season.
The program unfolds over several weeks, featuring chamber ensembles, organ recitals, operatic performances, and wind ensembles. The heart of the season remains the Ferragosto Concert, the most anticipated event and the true jewel of the festival, which traditionally concludes the summer cycle in the evocative atmosphere of the Bramante temple, amidst the notes and the tranquility of the Prenestini Mountains.
The concerts range from Baroque and classical repertoires to sacred and operatic music, with programs pairing composers like Bach, Mozart, and Fauré with more intimate, meditative pieces. Renowned performers, often associated with major Roman and national musical institutions, take the stage within the temple walls, offering intimate, high-level artistic evenings.
Thanks to free admission, the Tempio della Maddalena Concert Season is intended as a gift to the community and to those who travel up here to discover one of the most characteristic villages in the Prenestini Mountains. The initiative combines the promotion of local artistic heritage with the pleasure of listening, in a setting that invites contemplation and sharing.
Perched at an altitude of over 900 meters, Capranica Prenestina is an ideal destination for those seeking cool air, nature, and culture just a short distance from Rome. The Tempio della Maddalena is the village's most precious symbol and, during the summer, becomes the focal point of an experience that weaves together art, faith, and landscape. Attending a concert here means experiencing music in an authentic dimension, far from the city's frenzy and immersed in the identity of a territory rich in history.
The 2026 Concert Season in Capranica Prenestina returns to enliven the Tempio della Maddalena with a program blending classical, sacred, and operatic music, as part of the Religious Summer promoted by Father Davide Martinelli and curated by the Cappella Musicale della Maddalena. The festival, with free admission, accompanies the public from July until the traditional Ferragosto Concert.
On Sunday, July 5, 2026, at 7:00 PM, the temple will host a concert by the wind ensemble 'La Metamorfosi di Atlantide', featuring flute, clarinet, horn, and tuba. On stage: Francesco Mondavio (flute), a long-time collaborator of Maestro Ennio Morricone, Sergio Mondavio (clarinet), Adriano Romano (horn), and Carmelo Triscari (tuba), in a program ranging from Arcadelt to Bach, Mozart, and Fauré.
As per tradition, the season culminates with the Ferragosto Concert, scheduled for August 15, 2026: it is the most anticipated event of the Capranica summer, closing the program in the intimate atmosphere of the Bramante temple. The detailed program of individual appointments is released periodically by the organizers.
