The program, promoted by the Municipality of Bitonto in partnership with Puglia Culture, features a mix of drama, contemporary dance, social theatre, and youth productions, starring renowned Italian actors such as Alessio Boni, Leo Gullotta, Caterina Murino, Emilio Solfrizzi, and Alessandro Haber. A national-level lineup hosted in one of the most elegant historic theatres in the Bari area.

A season of great drama in the heart of Bitonto

The Teatro Traetta Theatrical Season is the most anticipated cultural event of the year in Bitonto, in the province of Bari, Puglia. Every year, from November to March, the 18th-century Tommaso Traetta Municipal Theatre โ€” named after the Bitonto-born composer Tommaso Traetta, a key figure in 18th-century European music โ€” lights up its stage with a nationally acclaimed program, promoted by the Municipality of Bitonto in collaboration with Puglia Culture.

Drama, dance, social theatre, and youth productions

The season is more than just a drama schedule; it is a comprehensive cultural project that weaves together various performing arts. Alongside the main drama performances, the audience can enjoy the contemporary dance series L'Arte dello Spettatore (The Spectator's Art) with Sunday evening shows, the social and civil theatre series dedicated to Anna Rosa Tarantino, designed as a morning program for schools, and the children's series La Scena dei Ragazzi (The Youth Stage), featuring Sunday shows for families. The offering is completed by a cycle of titles dedicated to cultural welfare and social inclusion.

The great names of Italian theatre

What sets the Traetta apart is its ability to bring leading figures of the national stage to Bitonto. Recent seasons have featured actors such as Alessio Boni, Leo Gullotta, Caterina Murino, Emilio Solfrizzi, Alessandro Haber, Giuseppe Pambieri, and Pamela Villoresi, in productions ranging from Greek and Latin classics to the great 20th-century Italian dramaturgy, from Goldoni to Pirandello, and from Svevo to Eduardo De Filippo.

A historic theatre to experience

Attending a performance at the Traetta means experiencing theatre in a venue steeped in history and local identity. The elegant and intimate auditorium offers a close connection between the audience and the stage, making every evening an intense experience. For the residents of Bitonto and the entire Bari metropolitan area, the Traetta season is a winter ritual, an opportunity to gather around the power of the spoken word and live music.

How to participate

The season consists of subscriptions and tickets for individual performances, available at the theatre box office and through the Vivaticket network. The Teatro Traetta is located at Largo Teatro 17, in the historic center of Bitonto, easily accessible from Bari and the surrounding province.
