The prose season at the Teatro Comunale Gennaro Finamore in Gessopalena
The Teatro Finamore Theater Season is the most anticipated cultural event in Gessopalena, a town of just over a thousand residents perched in the hills of the province of Chieti, in the heart of Abruzzo. Every year, between November and April, the Teatro Comunale Gennaro Finamore raises the curtain on a program that brings leading names from Italian theater and television to this small inland village, alongside talented local amateur companies.
The core of the festival is prose theater, made possible by a long-standing collaboration with Stefano Francioni Produzioni. Over the years, the Gessopalena stage has hosted beloved performers in contemporary plays, readings, and concerts. Alongside these big names, local and amateur Abruzzo companies take the stage with dialect comedies and witty shows that capture the life and humor of the region.
The season is organized by the Municipality of Gessopalena and the Pro Loco, supported by a dedicated network of volunteers who manage the front-of-house, ticketing, and logistics. It is this participatory, community-driven spirit that makes the experience so special: audiences fill the Finamore hall season after season, turning every evening into a gathering place for the entire town and its neighbors.
Attending a show at the Finamore is also the perfect excuse to discover Gessopalena, with its evocative old town carved into the gypsum rock, and experience the hospitality of inland Abruzzo, rich in folk traditions, excellent cuisine, and the landscapes of the Terre Carricine.
The 2025/2026 theater season at the Teatro Comunale Gennaro Finamore in Gessopalena opened on Sunday, November 23, 2025, with "La distanza della luna," performed by Marco Bocci and Fabrizio Sabatucci, and concluded on April 26, 2026. The program brought together twelve events featuring both major Italian stage stars and local companies.
Highlights included: Giampaolo Morelli with "Scomode verità e 3 storie vere" (January 31, 2026), Giorgio Pasotti and Giacomo Giorgio in "L'Otello" (February 3, 2026), the tribute to Fabrizio De André by Antonello Persico, and the "100 years of Disney" concert by the Orchestra Fenaroli (January 4, 2026). There was also ample space for dialect and comedy theater with Abruzzo-based companies.
A full-season subscription was offered at 130 euros for all twelve shows, with a transferable option.
