Taro Po Running

A race between the Taro and the Po, in the heart of the Bassa parmense

The Taro Po Running is one of the most characteristic running races of the Parma spring. It takes place in Sissa, in the Municipality of Sissa Trecasali, in the Province of Parma (Emilia-Romagna), in an area where the landscape is dominated by the great rivers: the Taro which, not far away, flows into the Po. It is this meeting of waters that gives the event its name and shapes its course.

The course along the riverbank

The heart of the race is an approximately 11.6 km course that leads runners to the Po riverbank, amidst cultivated fields, floodplains, and the typical scenery of the lower Po Valley. It is a predominantly flat, fast, and scenic route, alternating country roads and dirt paths along the embankment, offering wide views of the great river. The late March date often offers sunny but still cool days, ideal for long-distance running.

Sissa Trecasali is a Municipality in the Bassa parmense born from the merger of the two centers of Sissa and Trecasali. Its territory, crossed by the mouth of the Taro, is a land of waters and rural traditions, a few kilometers from Colorno and its famous Ducal Palace. Participating in the Taro Po Running also means discovering a less touristy but authentic corner of Emilia-Romagna, where running becomes a way to experience the river landscape.
