Swing in Capital: West Coast Swing returns to the Capital

Swing in Capital is the most anticipated West Coast Swing event in Rome. Hosted at the Hotel Capannelle, in the Capannelle district in the city's southeast, the event took place from April 9 to 12, 2026, bringing back to the Lazio capital an international gathering that had been missing for years. After a five-year forced break, the organizers at West Coast Swing Roma relaunched the event, welcoming dancers from all over Italy and various European countries.

West Coast Swing in Rome

West Coast Swing is a partner dance born in the United States that has evolved into a social and competitive discipline recognized internationally by the World Swing Dance Council (WSDC). Elegant and improvisational, it adapts to modern music, from pop to blues, and focuses on the connection between the two dancers. West Coast Swing Roma and the Fusion Style school, active in the Capital since 2010, were the first to introduce this style to the city: Swing in Capital is their flagship event, capable of transforming Rome into a meeting point for the European West Coast Swing community.

The Program

The format of Swing in Capital 2026 combined training, competition, and fun over an entire weekend. The program included:

• Intensives and workshops with international masters, for dancers of all levels;
• WSDC competitions officially recognized, with Jack & Jill and Strictly categories divided by skill level, from beginners to the most experienced;
• Evening social dancing until late at night, animated by the event's DJs;
• Performances and demonstrations by guest professionals.

The competitions, free for participants, saw a large turnout: dozens of leaders and followers signed up for the Novice Jack & Jill category alone, confirming the vitality of the discipline. Divisions ranged from Newcomer to Novice, Intermediate, and Sophisticated, in both Jack & Jill and Strictly formats.

The Venue: Hotel Capannelle

The event was held at the Hotel Capannelle, on Via Siderno, in the southeastern quadrant of Rome, not far from the Capannelle Racecourse. The hotel structure allowed for the concentration of dance halls, workshop spaces, and accommodation in one place—a formula highly appreciated by dancers arriving in the Capital from outside the region and abroad.

A Gathering for the Community

More than just a competition, Swing in Capital is a meeting point for the West Coast Swing community. In the Municipality of Rome, the heart of the Lazio Region, the event combines a passion for dance with the conviviality typical of swing events, featuring lessons, competitions, and dance parties. The 2026 edition, which quickly sold out, marked the return of the event to the international West Coast Swing calendar.
