The international Lindy Hop and swing festival on the Catania seaside
Swing Eruption – Catania Summer Fest is a landmark event for the Italian and international swing scene. Established in 2023 by Danz Officina, a Lindy Hop school based in Catania, the festival draws dancers from across Europe to the Etnean capital each year, allured by the blend of dance, live music, sea, and Sicilian culture. The name itself plays on the local identity: a swing "eruption" exploding in the shadow of Mount Etna.
The heart of the festival lies in its educational program. Throughout the weekend, attendees can enjoy Lindy Hop workshops across multiple levels (from improvers to advanced), Solo Jazz classes, and Aerials modules, focusing on the spectacular acrobatic figures of swing dance. Instruction is provided by world-class teachers, some of the most prominent names in the global African American dance scene, complemented by open taster classes and a Mix and Match competition accessible to everyone.
At night, the festival moves to the dance floors overlooking the coast: orchestras and bands specializing in 1930s and 40s swing alternate with DJ sets for social dancing that lasts until the early hours. The formula combines high-quality instruction with the relaxed atmosphere of a beach holiday, with beach access included in the passes.
The festival takes place in the Municipality of Catania, Sicily, along the city's coastline. Its location, nestled between the UNESCO-listed Baroque historic center and the beaches of La Plaia, makes Swing Eruption much more than just a dance gathering: it is an opportunity to discover one of the Mediterranean's most vibrant cities, from its traditional fish market and street food to excursions up Mount Etna. A combination that has made the Catania Summer Fest a highly anticipated date on the swing enthusiast's calendar.
The fourth edition of the festival was held from June 12 to 14, 2026 at Lido Le Palme (Viale Kennedy, Catania), with hours from 10:00 AM to 11:30 PM. The educational program featured Lindy Hop workshops across multiple levels (improvers, intermediate, advanced, and advanced plus), as well as Solo Jazz and open-level Aerials.
International instructors included: Skye Humphries & Frida Segerdahl, Laura Glaess, Bianca & Nils, Maria Mallan, Lidia & Héctor, Carlos & Evgeniia, and Lorenzo & Luisa. The evenings were brought to life by live music from the Hot Swing Sextet and Swing Around, alongside DJ sets by Salvatore Fichera, DJ Beat Balance, and DJ Serj. The open-level Mix and Match competition and beach access included in the passes were confirmed.
Catania is served by the Catania-Fontanarossa International Airport, located just a few kilometers from the city center, and by the Catania Centrale railway station. The festival is held along the city's coastline (Viale Kennedy / Plaia area), which is easily accessible by car or public transport.
Participation is via passes available for purchase online on the Danz Officina website: full passes (complete workshops + evening events), passes dedicated to Lindy Hop or Solo Jazz, party passes for evening events only, and add-ons for Aerials courses. Prices vary depending on the package and the registration period (super early bird, early bird, regular).
The event takes place in June with summer weather: we recommend comfortable clothing for dancing and a swimsuit, as beach access is included. Be sure to book your accommodation and registration early, as workshop spots are limited.
