A village carnival in the heart of the Vercelli plains
In the heart of the rice-growing plains of the Province of Vercelli, the small town of Stroppiana celebrates its Carnival every year, marking one of the most cherished highlights of the winter season. Organized by Pro Loco Stroppiana, the festival transforms the village squares and community spaces into a stage for masks, music, games, and conviviality, remaining true to the authentic spirit of the Piedmontese village carnival.
The Stroppiana Carnival is, above all, a community celebration: it is born and thrives thanks to the volunteers of the Pro Loco and the participation of entire families. The event opens with the evocative handing over of the town keys to the carnival masks, a symbolic gesture that entrusts the village to carnival joy for a few days. From that moment on, dinners, dances, themed parties, and moments dedicated to children begin, enlivening the parish hall, the school, and the covered market.
The calendar features activities for all ages:
The Stroppiana Carnival does not end within the village borders: the local mask group participates with its floats and costumes in the grand parades of the Vercelli Carnival—one of the most important carnival events in Piedmont, featuring the historic masks of Bicciolano and Bèla Majin—as well as the Trino parade. This regional connection makes Stroppiana an integral part of the vibrant carnival circuit of the Vercelli plains, where every village brings its own creativity to the streets.
Those looking for an authentic carnival, far from the large tourist crowds, will find a genuine event in Stroppiana where tradition, local gastronomy, and community spirit blend perfectly. It is the perfect opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of Piedmont, immersed in the landscapes of the rice paddies and welcomed by the warmth of the locals.
The 2026 edition brought Stroppiana to life from January 31 to February 14, with a calendar full of events managed by the Pro Loco. The local mask group then brought its colors to the Vercelli Carnival parades, scheduled for February 15 and 22, and the Trino parade on March 1.
Highlights included the dinner at the San Michele parish hall, the "Los Nimalos" kick-off event, the children's dance, the school costume party, and the bean stew at the covered market.
The events take place in Stroppiana (VC), in Piazza Libertà and the main village venues: the San Michele parish hall, the school, and the covered market. The parades are held in Vercelli and Trino.
By car: Stroppiana can be reached from the A4 motorway exits (Turin-Milan) towards Vercelli, continuing along the provincial roads of the rice-growing plains. By train: the reference station is Vercelli, connected to the national network, from which you can continue via local transport.
