Three days of street art, flavors, and music in the heart of Castel Maggiore
The Street Festival, combined with the Festival of Flavors, is the major spring event in Castel Maggiore, a Municipality in the Metropolitan City of Bologna in Emilia-Romagna. For three days, Via Matteotti, with its railway underpass, and Piazza Pace transform into an open-air stage where urban art meets taste and live music.
The heart of the event is the Skills Graffiti Jam, a large street art gathering designed to redevelop the Via Matteotti underpass through a collective artistic intervention. Around thirty writers from different cities come together to create new mural works, bringing beauty and identity back to an often-overlooked urban space. The initiative is coordinated by Antonio Colaci and Niccolรฒ Chiarini and stems from the collaboration between the Pro Loco, a crew of writers, and friends of the Salotto dell'Artista, with the aim of promoting intergenerational cultural exchange.
Alongside the murals, the festival offers a rich gastronomic experience: the Festival of Flavors with stands of typical products, food trucks, the Tuscan market, and areas dedicated to families with inflatables in front of the Town Hall. Providing the soundtrack are buskers, live music, and vinyl sets that accompany the public throughout the event.
The Street Festival is a free event open to all, designed to bring together residents, families, street art enthusiasts, and curious visitors from Bologna and the surrounding plains. To allow the writers to work and activities to take place, the Via Matteotti underpass is closed to vehicular traffic on Saturdays and Sundays. The result is a festival that combines fun, taste, and urban regeneration, leaving the city with a concrete legacy in the form of new murals.
The 2026 edition of the Street Festival took place from Friday, May 15 to Sunday, May 17 in Castel Maggiore, animating Via Matteotti, the railway underpass, and Piazza Pace with a widespread program of urban art, food and wine, and music.
The protagonist was the Skills Graffiti Jam, with about thirty writers at work to redevelop the Via Matteotti underpass. Alongside the mural interventions, the public enjoyed the Festival of Flavors, food trucks, the Tuscan market, inflatables for the little ones, and lots of live music.
